I tried that,and it's no suprise that the shield is repelled in the presents of a piece of iron,unfortunately.

Did you use a 3D program to simulate this? What software did you use?

Are you able to say an estimate of the forces between the steel ball and magnet versus the counterforce in the rotating shield? Not that I will be surprised if the torque values in both sums up in zero... :)
