Little help with a disc with gears
« on: February 07, 2010, 10:59:13 PM »
Good day,
I have an idea for a magnet motor but i have been having difficulty finding a 4"-6" disc with gear teeth on the edges. I need two or more. The discs must mesh. Any ideas on where I could buy these would be much appreciated.

You can get reasonably large 3" gears out of old Epson and HP ink jet printers.
Computer recycling places are good source of these. (I got two old Epson 777 printers for $10)
You will also find two 3.5" gears inside VHS tapes, but the teeth are non standard, and very thin, so you may need to glue two aligned disks together to make a usable gear.

You can buy online here:
http://www.sdp-si.com/

They have sizes of at least 4" with fine teeth, but 6" I'm not sure.
