My entrance into the $1M Randi challenge - non-debunking thread
« on: January 05, 2009, 04:31:29 PM »
Hi,

This thread is *not* for debunking. It is to merely discuss and provide any updates on my Randi $1 million dollar challenge application.

Six days ago I sent the following email to the Randi organization at the appropriate email address, challenge@randi.org  Three days ago I sent another email asking if they received my original email. They claim a 24 hour response time. So far no response.

Conventional scientist can prove if my diode array is capturing ambient thermal energy, which according to conventional physics is called a Perpetual Motion machine of the 2nd kind. Given the extreme precautions my diode array setup is within, there are no conventional reasons why my diode array would produce any DC voltage, much less 0.2mV DC. There is no reason for the Randi organization to deny my access to the challenge other than if Randi is afraid of losing the one million dollars. I would encourage people to contact the Randi organization to reply to my emails.

Here's the orinigal email that I sent to the Randi organization at challenge@randi.org -->

+++++++++++
Dear Randi organization,

I would like to enter my diode array into the $1M Randi challenge, but I have questions, if you don't mind. Perhaps they're answered somewhere on your site, but I was unable to find them.

A quick introduction to my device. I have soldered 156 diodes in-series, and then placed a Mylar capacitor across that (the entire diode array). That is it. The diode array is contained in sufficient metal shielding. Also, as advised by scientists, the diode array is presently contained in a mineral oil bath. Mineral oil is the standard/common type of oil used for temperature sensitive testing. The oil bath eliminates all measurable effects that small temperature gradients may have on the diode array. The diode array, for example, produces a measurable DC voltage, depending on the room temperature, the resistance load across the diode array. I have been logging the diode array DC voltage over the past few months. Last night the measured DC voltage was 23.9uV (0.0239mV) DC across a 2M ohm load. That is not going to power anything, but it proves the concept. Please make no mistake that measuring 23.9uV DC across a 2M ohm load is not a difficult task, a task that any competent EE (Electrical Engineer) could easily handle. So, that's not much power, but it still violates the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics nonetheless!  Furthermore, the mathematics shows that a diode array made of microscopic diodes could produce thousands of watts per cubic meter. That is continuous non-stop power, day and night, 365 days per year. This technology is well worth investigating.

I am certain Randi and his organization would be more than happy to pay the $1M challenge money to a legitimate science researcher. It is my intent to use the money to further my diode array research, to build a diode array *chip* that would produce usable amounts of power; e.g., provide all of the electrical power needs for a home.

Some questions:

1. Where is the application for the perpetual motion machines? I saw one application, and it was concerning "psychic, supernatural or paranormal claims."

2. There are three kinds/classifications of perpetual motion machines. My diode array is considered a perpetual motion of the 2nd kind. Every scientist I've asked said my diode array would violate the 2nd law of thermodynamics. Please advice if my diode array qualifies for the one million dollar Randi challenge. The first and second kind of perpetual motion machines violate the Laws of Thermodynamics. For details on the three kinds of perpetual motion machines, please read -->
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perpetual_motion_machine#Classification

3. What is the *entire* process?  Lets presume that Randi comes here and sees the diode array producing a DC voltage across a load. Then what happens?

4. At some point am I *required* to give or loan you my diode array? I am willing to let scientists analyze the device as long as they want so long as I am present. If they believe I have some hidden transmitter, then they can hand me some binoculars so I can watch far away. I am willing to travel to any safe location so long as I can afford it, or if I am paid for travel, room, and board.

5. Presuming that I win the challenge, I would need to know the maximum time it would take from the point where Randi sees the device to when I would actually receive the one million dollars. My main concern is that it would require years of having the device validated, and require a lot of my time before actually receiving the one million dollars.

6. Is the one million dollars paid out all at once, or is it paid on a monthly basis, or what?
+++++++++++

Here are the current conditions, per the website.  This is a change from the way the challenge operated before.  If you have had a qualified engineer review your findings, as you mentioned, you have satisfied the second qualification.  All you need left is to get mentioned in some media.

****

As of April 1, 2007, we will require two major qualifications of all those who will be eligible. First, any applicant will be required to have a media profile. By that, we mean that there must be some media recognition – a television interview, a newspaper account, some press write-up, or a reference in a book, that provides details of the claimed abilities of the applicant....The second requirement will be that the applicant must provide an endorsement of an academic nature. That means some sort of validation from an appropriately-qualified academic....

Once these qualifications have been offered, we will follow up on them, asking for validation; we’ll require that the cited authorities verify that they did make such a statement about the applicant, or that they hold such an opinion, and that they still stand by that statement. Anecdotal material will not be accepted.

We may be prepared to possibly waive the requirement for a preliminary test as soon as these two qualifications have been validated. In such a case we will be prepared to move right into the second phase: the formal test.*

I don't see how "claimed abilities" is relevant to a perpetual motion machine.

The challenge is primarily focused on those who claim paranormal ability.  The perpetual motion machine challenge is an offshoot of that idea, but it is reasonable to assume that whatever requirements apply to the paranormal claimants would apply to the PPM inventors as well.

Hi,

The only question I asked after your last post was, "Please name one perpetual motion machine claimant that was refused by Randi's organization?"  but it's not a big deal. IMO the thread was becoming pointless, and didn't want it to be a Randi debate.

BTW, it's been 11 days, and the Randi org has not replied to my emails.

Regards,
PL

I have no idea. What I said was there is a lot of disgruntled Randi claimants out there. Here's one article and I've seen many others over the years.

It's been 14 days now with no reply from the Randi organization. Actually I sent two emails. IMO it's just very simple and obvious, Randi is only interested in claims that have no chance of winning his one million dollar reward. Well, anytime Randi is ready, I'm ready, but he needs to answer some very obvious questions that should already be answered on his website. Such questions are not answered on his website. I have no interest in asking his followers in the forum because I'm only interested in answers from unauthorized people who work at the Randi organization.

Anyhow, I am extremely disappointed in Randi. IMO his organization is a worthless front, a fake, a fraud in itself.  :(

The conditions are spelled out.  You have to have had some mention in the media.

I don't see how that has anything to do with the obvious questions I asked the Randi organization. I'm not concerned about that when they can't even reply to legit emails. Besides, it wouldn't take much to get mentioned in the media, but that's a moot point for now.
