Humans will never understand the universe
« on: December 30, 2008, 09:25:27 PM »

When humans try to understand the universe they produce junk science.
Humans should stick to observing the universe.

Humans should stick to observing the universe.

Restricted to the traditional 5 senses? Or do tools (electron microscopes, telescopes, particle accelerators, gravitational or even "non-physical" [plasma] lenses) also count? How about people who are clairvoyant/clairsentient/clairaudient -- does their perception also count or are there not enough of them yet to also belong to "humans"? Do "observations" have to be exactly the same for everyone, every time, everywhere?  :D

How about universes other than this one?  http://www.overunity.com/index.php?topic=6227.0

"Understanding" would usually only concern the mind -- maybe adding intuition, imagination, feeling, dreaming, etc., would help to "understand" better ("intuitively getting it")?  ;D

So the universe doesn't produce junk science? It came up with us, didn't it.

Trino,
You can use what ever tools you want to observe the universe, but your never going to understand the big picture.

[...] your never going to understand the big picture.

Maybe we all already do and only pretend we don't, because otherwise we wouldn't be able to discover and experience things at a pace that can be enjoyed and internalized to the fullest extent...

Trino,
Some people accept the notion that we will always be able to ask more questions about the universe than we will be able to answer.
Other people make up junk science to explain things they will never understand.

I think its the journey that's important, there is allways more to learn. Keep a open mind and ask questions we may never find answers to every thing but we will find things that will advance our search. Close your mind to new thoughts and think you have nothing more to learn and that's when your guaranteed to loose.
But then again what do I know?

But then again what do I know?

Always more than you think you do -- because as soon as you learn about how much you know you just increased your knowledge by that amount. And since this is recursive without (known?) bound...  ;D

[Only true if you don't take a holistic approach where you are part of the whole that knows everything.]

Trino,
I am not saying as time goes by we humans will not learn more about the universe. What I am saying is what we learn about the universe will be based on what we observed in the universe.
We still will not understand the big picture.

Brian, I think I understand your point. I'm just playing around how I can look at things differently in a constructive manner. With maybe more than just two choices (infinite number if I can twist it that way ;D). Like going from digital to analog. Thanks for starting a thought-provoking topic (at least for me). A Happy New Year!

Everybody knows the answer to life, the universe, and everything, is 42 !

Unless perhaps they lost their hitch-hiker's guide to the galaxy.

Happy New Year all .... KneeDeep  :)
