Rants and random thoughts on magnetism
« on: April 10, 2010, 02:37:02 PM »

I read that when a magnet is stuck to a lump of iron, the magnetic force is amplified so, could this magnified field be used to generate free energy?

If the above statement is true then why is it in a transformer say with a 1:1
ratio the output less than input?

This morning I started by thinking about rotating magnetic fields.
I try to explain this: Theoretically, a magnetic material is made up of small magnetic domains which are randomly oriented.
Now imagine a solonoid,
when current flows through the coil, all the domains orient themslves
in the same direction. When the current is removed, the domains will
go back to their original states. I assume he doiman direction of orientation and re-orientation is random. Now if we energize the coil and then ensure when the current is removed the domains re-orient in the same direction and keep repeating the process things could happen.

Imagin one of those swings with place for 4 children. if 4 fathers push 4 children on the swing randomly all is fine but if they all synchronize and
the the whole mechanism would come off the ground!

Now if my 1:1 transfermer had a more smart core may be the output could
be higher. In a way acting like a flywheel in an engine.

A transformer is just making sure the inductance of the coils are so high that it will pull as least power from the powerline as possible just by running itself without load. The iron core will focus the magnetic field in a narrow path so the change of the field, when AC are applied, can happen with as less loss as possible. The 1:1 ratio transformer have the exact same amount of windings on each side to obtain the same unloaded voltage, but the resistance in the wire that is used will heat up when the transformer are loaded, so the voltage on the secondary side will drop. This heat is not for any practical use. There is also loss in the iron core itself. As the magnetism change all the time, the core will heat up too.

There is no way of getting more energy out than in, but it is possible to get either higher voltage OR higher current on the secondary side of a transformer - never both at the same time - unless the angle between current and voltage allows it to. This angle will anyway reduce the total energy. If there is 180 degrees delay between current and voltage, you can have a million ampére, and a million volts, but no energy. If you try to load it, this phase shift will be reduced so you will need to apply energy into the system to get energy out.

Master,

This is my major concern, that I believe few see as I, and possibly you.

My first post/thread here was this

Magnetic Permeability ... I can't find anyone talking about this !!!!!
      http://www.overunity.com/index.php?topic=4831.msg101674#msg101674

If you look through this, you will find some good info on how Ferromagnetics actually work.
I made the diagram below as a simple explanation of how magnets, 'iron' and coils work.

If you wanna talk about this... I'm ready to talk.

Low Q,

You said...
Quote
The iron core will focus the magnetic field in a narrow path

This is perfect example of of academia misleading the general public...

I know you were taught this Low-Q,
but the fact is that the iron core MAGNIFIES the coil's field
by means of previously randomly oriented magnetic dipoles
turning in the same direction of the coil's field,
and thus ADDING to the field of the Coil.

There is no focusing !!!
Focusing would involve taking already existing energy and squeezing it into a small space.
Yes.. A Coil of Wire will focus magnetic energy...
No.. Iron does not focus magnetic energy.

The diagram below may better impart my concern on this.
