Remember this the lower the voltage you use with this circuit the less current you draw.

in comparison to the same circuit (with the same 1.5v AA battery) without the variable capacitor?

Is the effect "wireless transmission of power" more confined to the vicinity of L2 once the variable capacitor is connected across L2?

I assume the circuit also functions without an L3 coil? Does the power consumption of the circuit increase once the L3 coil is connected (in comparison to when it is not connected)?

Your circuit has advanced quite a bit. I particularly like the indicator LED (above the two diodes).

Nice vid slayer, I have been working with these exciter circuits lately and have managed to get mine down to 1.2 or 1.3 volts at about 2-3ma.  I have all kinds of different setups that work lower or higher but that set up is interesting.  I am also using a 1" high by maybe 4.5" dia copper ring.  The base of transistor is hooked to a small wire I wrapped around the ring.  Pulses range from 4v-56v with this set up.  Oh I forgot to mention, not sure if you tried this but AV plugs hooked to lets say 35v@1000uf caps charge up easily.  Keep up the good work.

Yes, The variable capacitor across the L2 coil helps with tuning and gives higher output.

With the L3 coil connected it will draw more current.
But it's not that big of a difference.

It will light the led's and Fl anywhere from 25mA to 65mA.

I haven't compaired the wireless effect with and without the capacitor yet,But I will.

In this video I just show the difference with and without the capacitor accross the L2 coil.
When using this with higher voltage the capacitor doesn't have much effect.
But on lower voltage it sure does.

i dont understand any of these circuits
but i built the best earth battery
overlimit all the time i built what I beleive
you guys are referring to as saturation
by combining the coils into a car coil
contains the frequency to i guess saturate
if thats what the term is refering to
its essentialy morays germanium
cells then it transmits 120 volts but
i dont know how to wire these juel theif

You can use two or more batteries in series charging two or more batteries in parallel.

The cell phone charger can be replaced with different type batteries.
The voltage on the source has to be higher that the charge voltage.
Just run the source batteries in series and the charge batteries in parallel.

Hi!

I hope this thread hasnt died, and that there are a few people here interested in the simple slayer exciter.  Ive been playing with one for the last few months, and today ive managed to light a 40W filament wirelessly, just held in my hand.  Input is 15V @ 1A.  I dont get any kind of shock.  Is this cos of the skin effect?  Heres the video:

First bulb in video (and for last 30 seconds) is 40W. I'm just holding it in my hands. It lights properly (but not fully).  White light and plasma.

Second bulb is 30W - it doesnt light properly, but acts like one of those plasma globes you can buy.  No white light

The exciter is a powerful beast.  Whats going on with it?  My tesla coil never let me light incandescent bulbs in my hand....only CFLs and neons.

I reckon my impressive output is because of the transistor i use - its a MOSFET (IRF 830).  I dont see anyone else using it, and its far more powerful than my TIP 32C (bipolar junction) transistor.

There is a really good thread for exciter enthusiasts called ''joule thief, sec exciter and variants'' on energetic forum started by Jonny Davro.  Come and join some fellow exciter builders.   :)  The exciter threads here seem to be a little dead.

Thanks for the great diagram - here are some of the answers.

Coil dimensions

33.5 cm high, 11cm diametre PVC pipe - Typical drainage pipe for toilet. Its NOT the coil i bought in a tesla coil kit - i made this one myself so its hardly professional  Took me 3 hours!!!
Primary coil 3mm diametre (as a pancake) 2 turns at the bottom of the secondary
Secondary about 1mm, maybe 0.9mm (really not sure about this...just used an old ruler). (not really sure about number...but coil stretches 28.5cm so i think about 280 turns. I was wrong earlier in my statement of 450 turns - sorry)

i think the resistor is one watt.

IRF 830 on BIG heatsink i ripped out an old monitor which is back to back with smaller heatsink.  (Gets very very hot)

Power supply is from an old printer which states 16V at 320ma but runs at 15V @1A on this device.  Nonetheless, I can get the same effect with a small Lead Acid 12V battery (5.6Ahrs).  Incandescent are no problem with this baby  ;)  Its great fun!

I did not have the IRF830 right now so I'm trying
a setup with a high voltage NPN transistor instead.
Attached is my build so far. My coil is on a plastic
tube, 50mm diameter. I think I counted 250 turns.

Will report back when I fire up this circuit.

I also have a 50mm diametre coil but i couldnt get it to work at all - i hope you have better luck with it.  If you fancy winding your own use a fat toilet pipe (11cm diametre) and i think youll get much better results - another guy called ''jiffycoil'' on energetic forum gets fantastic results and he also has a fat secondary PVC pipe.

I'm starting to think that again ive made a mistake with the secondary -  its thinner than 1mm - its about 0.6mm diametre and there are perhaps 400 turns, perhaps a bit more.... Sorry for so many mistakes!!!

Thank you for the clarification.

I will try out my coil first because that was what I have right now.
I can always wind a new 110mm diameter coil later on.
My primary goal right now is to get the circuit to run without "blowing" the transistor. :-)

BTW: The second PCB is for 100 ultra bright LEDs.
