UK suppliers of project parts and materials ...
« on: April 05, 2010, 02:34:31 PM »
I had this post in the news section because somehow i hadn't seen this one so here's a repeat :

Thought i'd start off a list of good places for UK supply, including net sources and local sources by city.

Here are the net ones i have used with my comments on them :

SOURCE :http://www.mutr.co.uk

COMMENT : These people are amazing ! They have everything from gears and cogs, through electronic components, to smart materials.

Their minimum order is £10.00. They are VERY cheap but unfortunately their delivery time is ten days :(

They are a university resource here in London. Unfortunately you can't go and pick up your stuff :(

SOURCE : http://www.maplin.co.uk

COMMENT : Good pricing, fast delivery and local shops over the UK. Smaller outlets seem to have lower stock supplies.

SOURCE : http://www.wires.co.uk

COMMENT : Every sort of wire you can imagine. Good prices. Really helpful and fast delivery times. They even sold me 100 empty plastic coil formers for 8p each :) They don't normally do this but i told them i was part of an electronic hobbyist group and would get them more orders.

SOURCE : http://e-magnetsuk.com/

COMMENT : Cheap, fast, good customer service. Slightly limited in magnet variety, be it ferrite or neo. Do custom magnets but not large sizes.

SOURCE : http://first4magnets.co.uk/

COMMENT : Cheap, fast, good customer service. Good variety. Do custom magnets but not large sizes.

SOURCE : http://www.supermagnete.de/eng/

COMMENT : Neo magnets only. Good pricing and variety. Friendly customer service but P&P higher because they are in Germany.

SOURCE : http://www.magnetec.de/magnetec.htm

COMMENT : Yum-yum, they do nanoperm :) Good pricing and delivery, helpful CS but again P&P higher because they are in Germany.

SOURCE : http://www.t2retail.co.uk/

COMMENT : Good prices, good delivery.

SOURCE : https://www.circuitspecialists.eu/

COMMENT : Good prices, fast delivery. This is where i got my 18V, 2A DC PSU for £40.00.

As for local offline sources (LOL i suppose i mean shops !), I live in London and the only dependable source i have found is Maplin, though my local branch don't do Hall Effect sensors !

Hope, this helps, please add to it :)
