It is possible to destroy any country in one night without weapons with hundred people only. Look the document: https://fas.org/sgp/crs/homesec/R42795.pdf

If terrorists detroy (destroy) high voltage transformers in substations: no electricity for months ! no water, no oil, no light, no heating, no communication, etc. and the worst month is November !
Thank you, EOW, for that excellent point.
He's right!   Even in high school, I hung around highly intelligent 'nerds' who mused and posited the same thing.
Did you notice?   When terrorists destroyed the Twin towers in NYC, they did little to stop financial trading.   Nightly backups at the close of daily business hours is routine.   Big deal about the Towers.   Their loss set business back a bit, but they didn't blow up power substation lines as those lines will have radiated into the commercial/residential community, did they?   No.   Doing that would cause a lot more concern to the 'The' lawful 'Authorities' than the Twin Towers falling merely to the ground---in thousands of tons of mangled concrete and rebar wreckage.
The WTC is being---or has been---rebuilt as I write.

But, you're correct.
More security methods and/or techniques need to be addressed toward the apparently fragile electrical power infrastructure of the Lower 48, CONUS, and I mean, NOW!!

The economy has boom and bust cycles. What goes down must come back up. Charles Kindelberger calls them "Mania and recessions". A bubble creates a mania for a while, then investors learn they have borrowed too much and their assets will not go enough to make minimum payments on their loans, and they start a hot sale to take a small loss instead of a bigger loss.

Try to find one of his books, interesting reading.

I absolutely agree.
But, according to the following and related news articles, nuclear war with N. Korea could get really ugly---and our forces are WAY outnumbered on the ground.
       Take a look at this...
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017/11/17/preventive-war-with-north-korea-would-be-total-hell-heres-why.html
So.   We may or may not be running out of time before the "you-know-what" hits the "you-know where".

Here's something that's been at the back of my mind for awhile:

https://www.express.co.uk/finance/city/897894/Chinese-shadow-debt-an-18-5-TRILLION-market-which-could-COLLAPSE-the-banking-system

Right, now.   I think that much money would possible cause market disruptions "down the road", so to speak.
18 trillion surprised me to some extent.

I agree with Lee about China's debt problem.I refuse to invest in any stocks that are located in China. The Chinese could turn ugly(overnight) against any Americans investing in their country.China followed the USA in securing more debt.As long as there are
investors to buy their debt. They like the USA will continue to kick their debt problem down the road to a later generation.triffid

I agree with Lee about China's debt problem.
Right, but there's something else I'm noticing here in San Francisco:
Fewer people in the local public library.
The low-  to  very-low-income  people go the the library to get out of the weather elements.
I regularly see empty chairs in front of computer terminals.

Where are all these people?

I can easily jaywalk across Market St., even at noon.   That would've been impossible 1-2 yrs. ago.   Those cars are gone.

Am I the only one who sees this going on?

S.F. screwed themselves by allowing the corporate interests to take over
it’s not only expensive, but inconvenient to exist there.

Besides the fact that the city itself is the very place our grandparents
talked about....
walking to school in the freezing rain, uphill both ways...

Undeniably one of the least desirable places in America.

Just when I thought it couldn't get worse I find this news:
Two companies are currently engaged in the late stages of commencing to mine seafloor massive sulfides. Nautilus Minerals is in the advanced stages of commencing extraction from its Solwarra deposit, in the Bismarck Archipelago, and Neptune Minerals is at an earlier stage with its Rumble II West deposit, located on the Kermadec Arc, near the Kermadec Islands. Both companies are proposing using modified existing technology. Nautilus Minerals, in partnership with Placer Dome (now part of Barrick Gold), succeeded in 2006 in returning over 10 metric tons of mined SMS to the surface using modified drum cutters mounted on an ROV, a world first. Neptune Minerals in 2007 succeeded in recovering SMS sediment samples using a modified oil industry suction pump mounted on an ROV, also a world first.

Potential seafloor mining has environmental impacts including dust plumes from mining machinery affecting filter-feeding organisms, collapsing or reopening vents, methane clathrate release, or even sub-oceanic land slides. A large amount of work is currently being engaged in by both the above-mentioned companies to ensure that potential environmental impacts of seafloor mining are well understood and control measures are implemented, before exploitation commences.
Attempts have been made in the past to exploit minerals from the seafloor. The 1960s and 70s saw a great deal of activity (and expenditure) in the recovery of manganese nodules from the abyssal plains, with varying degrees of success. This does demonstrate however that recovery of minerals from the seafloor is possible, and has been possible for some time. Interestingly, mining of manganese nodules served as a cover story for the elaborate attempt in 1974 by the CIA to raise the sunken Soviet submarine K-129, using the Glomar Explorer, a ship purpose built for the task by Howard Hughes. The operation was known as Project Azorian, and the cover story of seafloor mining of manganese nodules may have served as the impetus to propel other companies to make the attempt.

I find this troubling, because these creatures can live nowhere else. The underwater ores are said to be ten times richer than any on land.So these creatures will be destroyed in the name of gold and silver mining. It will make gold cheaper as it will increase supply.

       It gets worse, IMO...
I'm seeing---pretty regularly---local homeless people being taken a the hospital in an ambulance.
They sometimes ask for help by cellphone---even in front of soup kitchens.
That's not such a problem for me yet.   I still have an income.
I'm a 'senior citizen', now, so I get in sooner than most people.

BUT, that doesn't let off the businessmen who set these high prices.
              Will the middle class disappear?

"...looking for the population?

--sm0ky2

Well, really, prices have risen on houses for, say, 59 straight months, running.
They're coming from somewhere, aren't they?
Just saying...

The middle class in the USA will get smaller than it is today. The upper ten percent of the top one percent will continue to get richer as they are able to buy the politicians vote on tax laws that benefit them and put the tax burden on the rest of us.At least this is what I see happening. Also our elected leaders will continue to lie to us on different issues.Mostly taxes.Maybe a war or two.triffid

Where is your rich/poor frontier line ?

Is this a quantitative or qualitative definition by yourself or common knowledge ?
                                            Pareto-maths included ?
                           https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle

But is in this empirical math-model(l) and the stated result not one syntax-error about rich/poor statements?
                                              Erbe/heranca/heritage
When has the grand-parents,later the parents, later their childs to give or receive
                                      -the ancients their culture/material property-
to manage this possible richdom for the "generation (over-)next" ?

For example using the german "finance property" piramide numbers(actual study) from the base up :

the first 25% from the private households : negative up to zero finance
the next 50%                                             : zero up to 15000 Euros

not much comparing with new car prices( there are many "Diesel-positive" cases now) or new household furniture and kitchen prices ( up to 75000 Euros)

This are households living from salary and/or pension liquidity,
now this society will become stressed for the next decades by the TIER and 4.th industrial and service [size=78%]industry revolution, with work places diminuation, in geral 50% and in the service sector -for example banking- up to 90% as reported by Price Waterhouse and Centralbank -studies !

Also the Estate administrations worldwide will outsizing "men power",
if not friendly and by "common sense" then "mobbing included" and other
                   " junk bodies burning-out strategies".

Why shall the US-economy household be different and not as same as the european household ?

                                                 Looking to the Dollar
                                             and the short-form symbol :
                                                          S for silver
(ancient silver-standard; the european, better:empirial Habsburger, KarlV-Thaler which was used in the european colonies, now -since 1776- known as U.S.A.,as common accepted money)

                                                and the  "holy Parity"-strings
as centralbank-warranty( Federal Bank of Reserve) that the notes/bonds/obrigations are guaranted by the deposited silver/gold reserves in the 1:1 parity

It will be really interstant how the "emitted and/or printed" trillions(english)(billions in german  )of
U.S.-american Dollar=Thaler debt will become paid in hard -material-cash value to the credit holder !

Sincerely
               OCWL
