It is unfortunate that we are still looking to catch the root cause of the energy gain effect.  Everyone (including me) has his/her interpretation of the phenomenon.  We just know that it is hiding in plain sight.
The only root cause of the energy gain in Bessler's case I can think of (without stretching my imagination too far) is centrifugal force. One falling weight cannot lift an identical second weight so that this lifted second weight then can fall in turn and lift the first weight into its initial state by nothing else than the use of gravity. This is impossible without an additional source of energy.

However, it would be possible by means of gravitational shielding. If only one side of the wheel would be affected by the gravitational field then the Bessler Wheel could rotate forever in perpetual motion, like a water wheel rotates as long as the wheel is submerged only with one half in the flowing water but not with both.

Now someone will tell me that gravitational shielding is not exactly 18th century technology (or is it?). But what about electric (or magnetic) field shielding regarding the Kapanadze device in the 21st century?

Apropos »shielding«:

Kapanadze has clearly visible soldered a sheet of copper onto his tin can. In my humble opinion there can be only two possible reasons for doing this. The first reason would be to hide the wires. But this could be more easily accomplished by wrapping the wires with adhesive tape. The second reason I could think of would be that inside the tin can there is something that has to be shielded very thoroughly.

So what could this be?

Is there a second capacitor or coil in the tin can (in addition to the visible ones) that needs shielding? But shielding from what? From the earth electric field perhaps because copper is not suitable to shield the magnetic field (even less the gravitational field)? And could it be that this shielding is the one component Kapanadze is referring to when saying that he has to make one component himself?

Maybe it's time to search for a proper tin can to do some experiments with it ... 8)

@ above,

a third and forth reason maybe is to be used as a heatsink or do nothing :o

@all someone else suggested it makes up the correct weight of copper for 1/4 wave resonance.

Maybe to hide the wires because the tin gets too hot for electrical tape to be practical. It looks so rough a job that I can't see it being for a very technical purpose. TK may have thought it necessary in case anyone were to blow-up the area around the wire entry and see something important  ;D

Taking this idea a step further, maybe he has toroidal transformer inside the tin can and is overloading it in some way to get the OU  ;D ;D

Bingo!
It should be: Is there a second capacitor/coil in the tin can

The shield is connect to ground and the strip connect one wire?

I have already shown the special transformer tesla used and is most likely the same in the copper can. The copper is for shielding as Tesla recommended for proper use of the coil oscillator. It's most likely oil filled as well upto the wires hole. I am assuming that the oscillator is so sensitive that it would have negative feedback and needs to be shielded to provide a clean oscillation source. The can itself does not need to be connected to anything since it is a static shield.

Why should it not be: Is there a second capacitor and a second coil in the tin can? ;D

The tin can is connected to earth (via the white wire going through the big coil) so there is no electric field in the tin can, it is a Faraday cage. So what happens if we put one half of a resonant circuit (maybe parametric) in a Faraday cage but the second half stays exposed to the earth's electric field? Then there should occur a difference between the two parts of that circuit as stated in the TK patent, shouldn't it?

And one more idea: Could it be that the whole purpose of grounding is nothing more than to have the maximum shielding effect of the Faraday cage?

Image below: All the aluminum boxes are grounded very thoroughly with brass strips. But I don't think this was done just because to minimize the risk of electrocution. Hence could it be that TK's »secret« hidden in plain sight is named »shielding«? :)

OK, while people here are busy with shielding all sorts of things ...

... I have to ask one question: Is this demonstration actually the demonstration of anti gravity or have I misunderstood something?

Professor Eric Laithwaite gives a demonstration of a large gyro wheel

So the professor holds a weight of 40 pounds (18kg) with one hand and swings it over his head, right? ::)

What would Schwarzenegger say to this? :)

Yes, but the gyro does not apply any vertical torque on his hand. If he stopped twirling it then all of the weight would presses down on his hand, but as if the 18kg mass was located directly above his hand (not to the side)

What would Schwarzenegger say to this? :)
"I used to be able to do that, too"

Then something must be wrong either with this weight or with my strength because I couldn't manage to lift 18kg (about the weight of a crate of beer) up over my head using both hands with no effort at all and speaking fluently at the same time, not even when the weight would be perfectly balanced. :o

But you could easily lift that much using a long ramp.  In the demonstration, he is using an invisible curved "gyroscopic ramp" in the shape of a helix by twirling the gyro and rotating his body.  Note that he stops being able to hold the weight up when he stops twirling it, although he probably could hold it on straight locked joints of his hand if he tried to (muscles don't work when the joints are locked).

An invisible curved gyroscopic ramp? I like that! :D

So an invisible curved ramp is bearing the weight instead of the professor. This sounds like science fiction but nevertheless it could be that Bessler has used this invisible curved ramp already in the 18th century within his wheel, couldn't it?

Shielding: Another possibility is that the copper strip acts like an aerial picking up the static generated by the high frequency switching. We know the control panel  (the tin can) has to house a capacitor according to his patents. One of these patents  has a three plate capacitor. I'd like to bet that if someone had a neon bulb near his device then it would light up. His patent states that he picks up the excess energy from the air. It's all there in plain sight.
