@All

It has been said that 3,000 to 6,000 volts AC is good for the spark gap. I believe Cosmo recommended 4,000 volts AC. My power supply is 2,000 volts AC. What power supply is everyone using to get SR 'silent spark'? I do have a flyback from a old monitor. I believe this flyback has a rectifier built in so its output will be DC. Oil burner transformers I own by the bushel but these are also well above 10,000 Volts and are DC.

Does anyone have a suggestion? I think the right spark makes all the difference.

Respectfully,

Core

I only have the 2kV neon transformer or 10kV burner transformer also so I stopped when Cosmo said it needs to be 4kV   :'(

@DonL
A "voltage doubler" made from caps and diodes should get your 4kv easily.

But it won't be AC.  It'll be DC.  I need AC  :'(

Thank you though.

How do you wire a Earth ground into the middle of the spark gap?  I don't understand that schematic symbol.

I just tested my neon transformer and it's only putting out 300VAC at 165kHz - not the 2000VAC on the label....  :'(

Bummer

Sorry to bother, but i have to cross compare the different designs and bring up their differences. I'm sure this is useful for some topic readers.

http://jnaudin.free.fr/kapagen/k32.gif
Naudin's replication has all coils connected in serial, and i see no meaning in it. It works somehow, and it has absolute nothing to do with what was replicated. I started my way through his design, so again, thanks for it. If this design used more HV and high frequency instead 50 Hz, maybe he would get much better results? I had dismantled a microwave oven to get the transformer (MOT). To have 4KV, one could use 2*MOT, where primary is parallel @ 220V and secondaries are serial connected. Or a full-wave AC voltage doubler maybe can be used: http://www.play-hookey.com/ac_theory/ps_v_multipliers.html
High frequency is key condition to create more flux lines in L-2. But there L-1 and L-2 are swapped. Confusing, better forget about it. I would not waste time with it.

The more correct design would be Smith's design. He explains very well about cable lengths to be in accordance to RF antenna design, with circuit matching etc. Very well explained. Smith's design was all standard physics. If i wanted to have electricity on my own, i would perhaps go with Smith design depending on the law of squares, if it really works that way. Nowadays high voltage diodes etc are easy to find.

Now comes Tariel's approach. Cosmo's hint is given, with the new way of thinking:
"1. No - it comes from changing parameters of ferrite medium"
"but if you change medium in ferrite, you can turn it into supermagnet who have a high potential."

Smith always said that some part is missing in his public revealed designs. Maybe exact this ferrite phenomenon is meant missing and it was already used in Smith's working device ? Maybe Tariel re-discovered this ? I assume Tariel's genius is the one who take the credit of changing ferrite medium state.

I only act as a catalysator to contribute different aspects. The guys actually building the test benches and doing the measurements are the heroes here. Now, how can it be set-up and tested to modify ferrite medium's state? It was said it's not that difficult at all. Is there a ferrite rod (or a simple iron bar) in addition to the ferrite rings ? Which of them, the ring or the rod or both are changing their state ? What is the purpose of the ring ferrites? Is L-2 wound on outside of rings with center tap and L-1 is at inside of the rings (how many turns ?) and is L-1 wound on a rod perhaps ? Is L-1 positioned on one half side ? What about the shielding aspect (where does it fit)? (Must not really answer on these, i just give thought hints.)

Can someone please translate the Russian in these pictures?
I'm curious even though they may not be relevant.

Thank you in advance.

DonL

Is this related with ferrite rings ? Are the ferrite rings isolated from each other ? Is there a step up gain of something and it's timing that is described in that diagram ?

Sorry if i can't hold my horses here. I have run thoughts about the possible construction of the coil.

What is the purpose of ferrite material anyways ? Won't it act as better medium than air to concentrate the flux lines within it ?

From Wiki:
"Ferromagnetic-core or iron-core inductors use a magnetic core made of a ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic material such as iron or ferrite  to increase the inductance. A magnetic core can increase the inductance of a coil by a factor of several thousand, by increasing the magnetic field due to its higher magnetic permeability. In electromagnetism, permeability is the measure of the ability of a material to support the formation of a magnetic field within itself. In other words, it is the degree of magnetization that a material obtains in response to an applied magnetic field."

L-1 is the low turn count, low amp, high frequency, high volt coil. This is the aggressor. The electrons move on surface of the coils copper wire. Thus we have a fat wire selected here i assume. So that the electrons have more surface to move on it.
L-2 is the high turn count, high amp, high frequency, high volt (divided by turn of L-1) coil. This one due it's higher windings count, produce additional flux lines.

Tariel design put L-1 on outside and L-2 inside. In SR/cosmo design it seems this is opposite. My thoughts went like this:

L-1's flux lines in center have no effect, since L-2 is on outside. Since L-1 was placed inside ferrite rings, then the outer flux lines of L-1 will bundle together through the ferrite rings ? Since the ferrite rings are in the center of L-2, then L-2 will get activated through the"outer" flux lines of L-1. Is this correct ? Do i have any mistakes so far ?

The magnetic field of L-1 can further be increased by inserting a rod into L-1.

CosmoLV said
schematic what i provided not give a OU in any way, this is only for experiments - for start and seeing how effects are produced in combination of two potentials.

There is process of "Magnetic Amplifier" who played important role in setup.

HV part have two contours
LV have two contours and these contours are Magnetic amplifier and ferrite part. (if we go little bit deeper)

Stimulated by the above (besides i always wanted to do that experiment), i arranged Nyle Steiner's magnetic amplifier's proof of concept work. After some tinkering with my setup i was able to grasp how the LV DC side controls the inductance (by saturating cores) thus altering the impedance hence the output of the AC high power side.

My typical current gains were 1:10 to 1:15, bulb is 20w.

...
Next i am making the ferrite LF LV AC electromagnet and HF HV AC supposed electromagnet canceling properties CosmoLV suggested
