Quote from Arunas:1.
Quote
Connect  51 turns coil to Vector Network Analyzer output / Spectrum Analyzer intput
2. Connect  cooper plates half-ring winding to generator with white noise output.

The reason he decided to do it this way is because we have tried at my lab to use  sweeping generator from Vector Network Analyzer only at frequency range from  say 0 to 2 MHz ( we did not use VNA at that very moment to measure but only to sweep. (as if we have had  sweeping generator)

Instead of that you can use Sweep Generator  SG
The sweep generator is fast scanning generator and because  of FF analysis at Spectrum  analyzer you are able to see all of the spectral components and desired 1.3 to 1.5 Ghz.

The faster is the sweep generator the better is display of Spectrum analyzer.
but if you want to tune it manually  as long as you have manual sweep generator you are able also to see that effect.. only with much greater difficulty..
Note that generator must maintain steady  voltage at  given range of frequency swept.

I made a quick youtube with my new Samsung Galaxy SII Android Phone. Incredible little gadget. Man is it easy or what?

Regarding yoke and magnet.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6j32phU5a6M

I have another youtube just uploaded regarding the 50hz and 380kHz that may interest ya'all.
http://www.youtube.com/user/wattsup1004?feature=mhee

What I forgot to mention in the second video is that the 50hz was set at 20% duty. At such low frequency, 50% duty is a total waste of energy, creator of excess heat and  actually was counterproductive to the energy process. The higher frequency was at 50%.

Cool,  see what happens when you put 2 frequencies into coils what have same winding angle in yoke (you probably will need to put another coil in) :)

Also, what is load power consumption and what is power of generators? Try to put more load than both generators can produce?

Please check for output voltage too, but be careful because it climbs to kilovolts easily when tuned into resonance. Also, the SINE WAVE must be on output coil from single generator no matter what type of input wave is.

Got my flyback. Just wondering if I should remove those chassis parts or will I need them for ground?

Jim,
The metal bits hold the flyback together and there are 2 non metalic washers between the ferrites.
Depending on the tension on the nuts and the material between you can adjust the resonsnce .

Hook it up and see what happens the the resonsnce when you losen the bolts and move the cores ever so slightly apart.

I think it will become  a useful feature as we progress

Doh thanks. Gathering my parts at this stage. Still unsure about the circuit but that was definitely a handy hint!

Each generator has feedback with 1 turn on coil and keeps own frequency no matter what changes inside of coil. This is where you get synchronization.
The 50Hz is approx frequency because obviously we need standard frequency out of coil. You can tune +/- few Hertz and see where this frequency starts carrying frequency from coil of 51 turns.

Many of us DO not have stand alone signal generators

Any I plan to make stand alone circuit for driving , without stand alone signal gen

Why is feedback needed for keeping frequency? its quite opposite, feedback is usually needed when you tune frequency to something.

If you have signal generator and set one frequency it will stay the same for ever

I am still confused here ...

I think Grizly has a point here. How the one-turn (wind) feedback coil helps SG at remaining stable?

...

Another stupid perhaps question that is in my mind, is how the Signal Generators that output more or less 10 V can still function (provide current at particular frequency) when the resosant rise that the posted oscillograms show voltage climbs at primary coils more that 26Volts @ 380 Khz signal and 80Volts + at 50Hz SG?

I'll be getting in the game to replicate this device soon. I just picked up an old TV deflection yoke for free from a local TV repair shop (for those looking for cores).

Also, for those who need a cheap function generator, I have three of these that I've used for experiments in the past:

http://www.amazon.com/Elenco-Surface-Mount-Generator-Kit/dp/B0002LUAM0/ref=pd_sbs_e_3/191-9915946-8316205

They aren't top of the line but work well for anyone who wants to experiment on a budget. Also, since they run on 9V batteries, it is easy to monitor the input power.

Also, if the input signal for the 51-turn coil needs to be synchronized with the resonant frequency, one can use something called an Injection-locked Oscillator circuit.

These oscillator circuits are used to lock the oscillator to the frequency and phase of the coil's resonance.

One thing I am not clear about is if the ~380 kHz resonance represents the bulk LC resonance of the 51-turn coil itself (with the given core) or if this is specifically related to the some kind of nuclear resonance of the core material itself. *If* this is the 51-turn coil's natural resonant frequency with the particular core, it can easily be found by simply injecting a single pulse into the 15-turn coil and looking at the response (frequency of oscillation) of the 51-turn coil. I was thinking about this as I'm sure many people don't have access to a spectrum or impedance analyzer.

@Wesley & Arunas,

Can you comment on if the above method would be a valid alternative to identify the 51-turn coil's resonance?

Thank you,
Jason O

What about this simple circuit ?

WHAT determines frequency here ? Because this circuit is SELF tuned !!
http://www.powerlabs.org/images/schematic1.gif

Maybe this can work directly with our core hmm

Yes, and I have a few other similar circuits in my circuits collection that I would be happy to share once we can be sure this is what we need. The above circuit you posted may also be a good choice for a the flyback driver, similar to the Royer-like oscillator that was posted earlier in the original schematics.

What is going on with this forum !?

Earlier in the day I was tryng to reply to Grizli's post, I wrote a long reply and when I had gone to post it, I got the message "The database does not exist" in german.  I lost all of my text, arrrrggghhh :/

After an hour I checked  the forum again and I still got the message "The database does not exist"

I had problems with slow access over the last few days, too.

Jason,

Thanks for this..I think I will get this SG...

Guys, does this SG have enough range for what we need?
