Free energy is any energy or work people do not have to do themselves.
Examples are; Horsepower, cow-power, nuke-power, oil-power,
wind-power, wave-power, gravity-power, heart-power, sun-power,

More specifically ,
that we don't pay for in a wide sense of word "pay".
Money are just one of the payment possibilities.Ones that are less explicit and far more important are health, personal freedom, environment, morality...

How can one call energy free if it produces hazards or causes others(or planet) to suffer.
In that sense only reduction in use of any non-Sun-based form of energy is a real path , leading to a netto 0 energy footprint. Only this situation is a true solution that will make energy free in any sense (u pay nothing and no one/nothing pays it for u).

Let's go back to the Sun energy(and its derivatives) that is powering our world already for so long and has no side effects.

Gravity or heart power are the solution.
