Inventor Jeff Baird unveiled an electromagnetic engine
« on: June 04, 2009, 12:19:14 AM »
Hi All;

Haven't heard of this on the forum although it was published on April 20, 2009 so I thought I'd post it in case anyone knows the inventor, you never know in this small world  ;D

From http://www.adaeveningnews.com/local/local_story_110130106.html

Snipped from story:

“All we’re doing is pulling on the pistons which has been done before, there are several patents out there,” Baird said.

“They’ve run into problems with how to fire the magnets and we just got around all those and filed our own patents.”

PS: I didn't see a forum for electromagnetic engine/motor/generator so I posted it under Pulse Motors, he mentioned in the article that “It’s electromagnets” but I haven't seen the patents yet so I hope it's in appropriate place.

Regards,
Paul

The current prototype can generate enough electricity to power lights, televisions and computers.
Large batteries fire the magnets and the motor acts as an alternator that keeps the batteries charged continuously

by george i think he's got it  ;D

I cant find much more info on this motor or inventor

Now let me see if I've got this right.
This is a free energy overunity machine.

That needs batteries to run.

@ All

I'm posting the article so that we can get the facts straight on how it's claimed to run...yes it's started with batteries but runs as an alternator to keep them charged while running extra loads.

Inventor does it again

Local man creates engine powered by magnets
Randy Mitchell Staff Writer

Allen — A local inventor whose creation was recently featured in Popular Science magazine unveiled his latest invention Saturday.

People in Allen were treated to food and soft drinks and a chance to see perhaps the future of electricity.

Ada area resident Jeff Baird’s newest invention is an engine that uses a technology that really isn’t new at all.

“It’s electromagnets,” Baird said. “They’ve been around a long time. It’s probably 60 or 70-year-old technology.”

An official open house to display the creation is set in June at Conner State College in Warner but Baird wanted local residents to get a look at it while it was at his company, Plumb New Ideas Ltd. in Allen.

“We’ve had a lot of support from folks here in Allen,” Baird said.

Many have tried and failed to get these engines to run efficiently and Baird said he has fixed what others couldn’t.

“All we’re doing is pulling on the pistons which has been done before, there are several patents out there,” Baird said.

“They’ve run into problems with how to fire the magnets and we just got around all those and filed our own patents.”

The current prototype can generate enough electricity to power lights, televisions and computers. It is a work in progress and bigger and better engines are on the way, Baird said.

“We’re just simply converting very little wattage into a lot of energy,” Baird said.

Large batteries fire the magnets and the motor acts as an alternator that keeps the batteries charged continuously. Because it does not use fossil fuels, Baird said it is environmentally friendly.

The technology works like windmills except it uses magnets instead of wind.

Baird recently made the news when his invention — the PermaFLOW — was featured in the December issue of Popular Mechanics.

Baird said he wants kids to see his creations and get excited about inventing things that help people. He said it is all about helping others. He’s helped many people from young inventors to the disabled.

“I just want to make things easier for people to live,” he said.

So it's basically a self-charging pulse motor with a complex linkage and flywheel.

Does anybody have an oscilloscope trace of the input and output power waveforms? Why not?

And if the batteries are just needed to start the machine, clearly they could be disconnected once it's running. Who cares if it charges up another, or even its own battery? Surely that function is not _required_ for it to run. So just disable the charging up function, by disconnecting the damn batteries after it's started up.

Or, please, come up with an actual coherent reason why they cannot be disconnected once it's started.

I like the PermaFLOW, though. It's about the right speed.

Dont think it was stated that it was over unity. If it can be made to run at 240 volts and supply at least a 100 amps with battery's Id buy two. Batteries can last years and can be replaced dirt cheap when you consider your electric bill.

@ IotaYodi

Actually the article mentions that the batteries run the electromagnetic motor that acts as an alternator to keep the batteries charged while running extra loads.  So it does seem that he figured a way to make it OU where others failed because of the magnet timing which they figured out and applied for a patent apparently.  I haven't found it yet  :(

Edit:  Anyone know how to perform a Boolean query in the Patent database for this?

Paul

Or, more likely (or rather, more possible, since the alternative that you mention is impossible) he is making the same old same old mistakes made by Bedini and other pulse motor builders, who do not understand how to measure energy and power properly.
It is this failure to actually make more energy out than in, not some esoteric chemistry or weird physics of lead-acid batteries, that prevents them from closing the loop and running without batteries.

I predict the following:
This device, running as described, batteries and all, will power a load for LESS time than the batteries alone would, running through standard off-the-shelf DC-to-AC inverters of the appropriate rating.

It's a simple experiment, and if I am wrong, then there might be something to get excited about.

But until scope traces are reported, or it runs itself without the batteries, or the above suggested experiment is performed, it's a good excuse for a beer party and not much more than that.

@ TinselKoala

I agree with your healthy skepticism and agree with certain things you mention but in this business you have to keep hope that someone actually will pull ONE OU device out of the magicians hat and show the world with proper measurements and procedures to prove that it's possible...or not  ;)

Having seen many claims like this one it could turn out to be a dud, who knows, we've certainly seen enough of those  :-\

The intent of opening this post was to find more information on this device from whoever might happen to read it and make a connection.

Paul

the ultimate tsts is to close loop it or run a small batery with an external load for a few days. I cant see anything here. However I cant see anyfishing lines either TK
