Trying something different
« on: April 15, 2009, 11:54:08 PM »
I'm testing out what I consider a different take on a generator.  But to cut to the chase I'm only using 2 magnets and there aren't many winds.  I'm currently getting 0.010 amps from .500 volts AC, is that any good?  I will be using 20 magnets in the end and hopefully there will be a lot more winds.  Oh and i'm hand spinning it from the shaft.

or how its different than previous generators

The weird thing is, I don't know if it is different totally, or just a design change......

As for pics, I've just removed the old loom and going to rewire the new one today, should get about 200% more wire onto it. :D

I'll see if I can get some pics then.

i do wonder what you plan to do with your two magnets though

until next time

You mean how to alternate the current with only 2 magnets?  Freakishly simple.

Bear in mind it's only single phase, I suppose I could change the wiring configuration to give 3 phase I suppose.

Right, it's rewired with still 2 magnets and got a 200% boost.  Basic facts, I'll post pics tomorrow.  The generator can accept 20 magnets, I can get just over 2V AC with a reasonable hand turn speed.  The final prototype with have double the diameter for greater surface speed as the shaft needs to spin at 360rpm to get 60hz current.

Ok, one of those questions......  On my AC generator, how do I determine which wire is live and which is neutral?

Oh and another......  I've wired my loom with a single core wire, if I decide to wrap another identical wire with it, would it increase output?
