Just did some calculations. A blue led from Radioshack  3.5v forward, 30ma is 105mw. lol  So the motor you see running in my vid is running at 80mw. Now thats funny. ;D

Mags
Nice setup, how did you make your rotor.

Anyways, seems pretty efficient being the coils in series are 15kohm. Resistance doesnt seem to be a loss here, Hmm. ??? ;D

...

Hi Mags,

Very good build and indeed efficient.  Speaking of resistance,  for motors it is the AmperTurns which counts first, then consider the 'copper loss' with the 0.5 mA current and the 15 kOhm, it gives only 3.75 mW loss, a low number with respect to the 80 mW input draw.   However if you think of utilizing any energy from the collapsing field, then the 15 kOhm is 'in the way' and can cause 'precious' loss.
Thanks for showing the video.

Here I have my rendition of Lasersabers EZ spin motor running just a straight 1/4 in plexi blade 1 1/2in wide  12in long.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7JY6H-XfWw&feature=youtu.be

The radioshack inverter is giving the motor 160v and draws .5ma at top speed.  About 80mw at 350 rpm. Now, admittedly, the blade is straight, but 80 mw?   ;)

Did this vid around the time I posted the other vids on this motor, just never posted it.

Mags

Dear Mags.

I felt compelled to compliment you on the build quality of your motor !!  :)  It is a credit to you.

This was the first time I had seen your motor as I never got much encouragement from the tests I carried out with these types of devices. keeping a motor ( Window Coil ) running continuously for 3 months was ok !! The drive battery never went flat but that was about it !!  You can't heat a house from it !!  :)

Keep up the good work.

Cheers Grum.

I think yes  with a good one   pass the hv to step down  to the 4.5 v level
the spark is coming from the output of coil and ground    the internal coils are in series connection with an no contact relay :)

Thank you for the clarification.
Have you tried lighting cfl bulbs? I don't have any mains led bulbs.
