How about a windless generator   when no wind  2 coils drive the rotor from charged battery

I put ac pump in my wifes car a couple of weeks ago and had to remove the cooling fan, I noticed the fan spun like it had permanent magnets in it not sure but would be worth checking, it spun by hand very easy but choppy like it was passing magnets.

Yes, most all electric cooling fans in vehicles are DC permanent mag motors. The flat pancake looking fan motors have a flat rotor and a single ring mag with alternating poles. Took me a while to figure out how it worked. It is basically a redesign of a Faraday dynamo with wire instead of copper disk, and the wires are all in series. They zigzag from the center to the circumference around 2 times to the commutator contact points. very cool motor. Works as a gen also, most all car fan motors do.

What interested me is the spec:
Mains voltage, 12 watts, 300 rpm, less than 2 dollars....

Here I have my rendition of Lasersabers EZ spin motor running just a straight 1/4 in plexi blade 1 1/2in wide  12in long.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7JY6H-XfWw&feature=youtu.be

The radioshack inverter is giving the motor 160v and draws .5ma at top speed.  About 80mw at 350 rpm. Now, admittedly, the blade is straight, but 80 mw?   ;)

Anyways, seems pretty efficient being the coils in series are 15kohm. Resistance doesnt seem to be a loss here, Hmm. ??? ;D

Did this vid around the time I posted the other vids on this motor, just never posted it.

Just recently ran the motor with just 3 coils in series, just under 2kohm, about 1.5w, 1800rpm. It pulls the voltage in the cap from the inverter down to 30v, but that lil inverter still keeps going. Tough lil bugger for 10 bucks and 2 AA.

Just did some calculations. A blue led from Radioshack  3.5v forward, 30ma is 105mw. lol  So the motor you see running in my vid is running at 80mw. Now thats funny. ;D

Classic! He's got it all!

A catchy name, check.
A rat's nest of colored clipleads, check.
Some cheap DMMs, check.
A bank of lights, check.
A spinny thing, check.
And... the coup de grace.... a power supply _and_ a battery !!!

I expect Stefan to be awarding the OU Prize to Infinitum at any moment.
