That tells you 2 things poynt99.

1...you may be heading in the right direction.

2...there are people here trying their best to create distraction and diversion.

Wear it as a badge of honor.

The numbers of 'smites' to certain members tell a bit of a story to anyone has been paying attention for the last while.

Regards...

Thanks guys.

btw, I've neither smited nor applauded anyone, as I refuse to use this type of system for providing feedback. I prefer simple direct discussion because I feel if you do not have the courage or desire to comment directly with a message, you should not comment at all.

Hmmm, that brings an interesting thought. Perhaps only having the applaud thing would work. That would perhaps in some small way reward those who are more positive. ... I don't know. We need more good moderators. We just need to clone more Stefans.  ;D

I applaud you for that! :)   This forum is probably getting to much for one person to handle. Perhaps Stefan could give a few honest people moderator privileges to help him out. Isn't that how most forums eventually end up?

PL

Hi Paul,

There are several people that have offered their help to Stefan such as myself I have no bone to pick with anyone here .... I'm presently a moderator at http://convivea.com/forums/index.php and http://www.hhoforums.com/index.php?s=72641dbd45607cf7140cf387a568dd84 and your right about honest people having these privileges.

As a moderator you know members e-mail addresses, IP Numbers, ISP provider and with good IP tracking software with a good "ping" and your online know within 100' of where you live, other user names you may have, modify, move or delete posts or threads, ban members for days or forever, track where you go on the forum to what posts you see or other members you check out. If pissed off you could delete a forums content in 15 minutes.  :o

Also most forums have more than 1 person running the show like Convivea for example because of the traffic ("Bit Che" P2P search engine forum site) there are 6 Administrators and 11 Moderators around the world in every time zone possible so as someone is there at all times or in and out to do what we do "ZERO" toleration on anything that could be objectionable to any other member or "Guest".

Hopefully Stefan can find someone to help here many good people have left because of the "bull shit" which only hurts the forum ......

Regards,
Fuzzy

Hi All,
I disabled again the Karma system.

It seems there is too much fight about this now.

When I am redoing overunity.com
at around the 20th of this month when
I move to the new SMF 2.0beta4 version,
I will also enabled a better user controlled
rating system.

I first have to test this on a test domain first,
so I can see, if it all works realiable before
putting it here on this live domain.

Stay tuned...

Regards, Stefan.

P.S. From February on I will do this as a full time job and will also
moderate then much more and also have a few more other
moderators.

So stay tuned for the better changes that will come soon.

Stefan:

I agree with Hans, good call....very good call.  If the new software allows the topics author to moderate his, or her, own topic, (including banning abusers from that topic) I think that will go a long way toward making your job easier, and keeping the posts reasonable.  Thank you.

This of course opens the door for censorship abuse. I am 100% for banning those that use abusive language towards others, but that is where the line needs to be drawn.

What is sure to happen if authors are given moderation rights is in many cases people will be banned merely for asking reasonable questions or pointing out facts or evidence that go against the author's beliefs or claims.

There is already ample evidence all over this forum that indicates this will happen. So in most cases this will not work.

The moderator must be someone that is impartial to the topic of discussion, and issues bans based solely on the behavior of members, not on whether or not the technical content is in agreement with the author's claims and ideas. This unfortunately leaves out the author as being his own moderator....unless.

There is one way however to make this work, and that is to moderate the author/moderator. Stefan will need to keep a close eye on them and/or consider complaints from those that may have been banned. Stefan can then make the final call.

In addition, I'd suggest that Stefan closely scrutinize what people are saying when they open a topic. Anyone claiming they've got overunity in their first post should provide ample solid evidence of their claim, and only then should be given moderator rights. Those not making claims of overunity could of course receive moderator rights immediately.

Whew moderation and website management as a full time job that is amazing where will you get the cash from?

Are you planing on...

Charging money to use the website?
Putting up more advertisement?
Selling products from OU members and taking a cut?
Donations?
Tshirts and other OU gear?

I guess everyone has to make a living but I just wonder which road you plan on taking heartiberlin?

Obviously it will be one that will effect us in this manner full time requires revenue.

100% Ack!

What would interest me: Is there currently much abuse? For I don't see any! Or is Stefan always that fast?!?
