which is why i think he used balls in stead of something else,

and all of that heavey force goes to the least weight ( ball)

i think the best way to get better performance is,

the inner (cone) will be heavyist then the bar and then the holder and then the balls.

which will create some serious counter- gravity effect to produce spin,

This wont work. If you would like to get 1kg steel ball at the same high were it starts from, you need for right timing (means the ball has to be up again before or just when the next ball on the left touches bottom) at least a 1:7.1 gear, wich also means 1:7.1 power = 7.1 kg on the left. I you only have 7kg on the left, nothing will happen. A gear not only speeds up the transport, it also takes more energy (exactly the same amount more energy) to do this...

why not stick a rod in a vaccum tube and place 2 wires(to the ROD or 1 to the tube and 1 to the rod, or completely to the vaccum tube) and then connect it to a Bulb.
