Temporary Avatar disabling..
« on: December 05, 2008, 02:34:24 AM »
Hi All,
I had to disable the Avatar display
because I did not want to have any more externally stored
avatar pictures for tighter security and faster page load reasons.
I will enable the Avatars again at the beginning of 2009.

Please until then in the meantime please upload your Avatar picture directly to over here
in your profile section to the overunity.com server
and don´t link it anymore from your own server.

This way I can make sure, that all
Avatar pictures are directly loaded from the overunity.com server
and don´t slow down the page load, if external
pictures do not load due to other servers being down or slow..

Many thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

Regards, Stefan (admin)

P.S: I also disabled the external linked in inline images inside postings with
the IMG tag, as this sometimes also slows down the page buildup.

Please upload all pictures from now on directly as an attachment to the posting.

Many thanks.

Stefan,

Well this news of having our offline images [IMG] tags ....... "sucks bigtime" for us that used this feature and now being you have made it impossible to "EDIT" any older posts ( more than 6 hours )  to correct the now new problem the members face dead links with no pictures, diagrams or what ever.

Also what happened to the "POST" features, color text, text size, hiper links, attachment size ...... etc.  "SORRY I"M OFF TOPIC"

For some reason, MY avatar on the corner of every page is very big and I cannot delete it from my own profile. I wish to remove it but there is no longer any way.

Please describe how I can do this.

Thank you,

jeanna

BTW there is also an ad near the bottom of the page (Top recommended products ad) that is drawn outside the border and into the forum and I am unable to read the posts there. Please help!!

Stefan,

The more I think about the deletion of members off site [IMG] image files is nothing more than a breach of trust that has been broken by this forum. By removing pictures, diagrams and other information that was "POSTED" for clarification on threads is gone making subjects dead or mute without the members approval by the administration and now the members location and username of where these [IMG] files were stored is now in the public domain for everyone to see. We as members have lost all rights to our thoughts, inspiration and information we have shared in good faith here at this forum, with nothing more than a wham bam thank you stupid for posting here. I guess you expect us to now to thank you for the censorship ..... no way no how not from me.  >:(

G'day Stefan and all,

Many of my posts contain extensive graphics to explain what I am working on. Since many of the graphics are much too large to upload on your sever I posted the graphics on my website and included a link. This also enabled me to show the illustrations in their correct place in the text rather than having a library of pictures at the end of the post.

I would have thought this system was preferable, since my illustrations otherwise would have taken up a lot of room on your server.

All in all, the old system worked well. I for one am disappointed and personally I don't think the new system enhances the site.

Just my two cents worth.

Greetings from Australia

I also thought the site was fine prior to these latest changes...it now seems more tedious to perform routine functions and harder to research the site.

As soon as I perfect my time machine I will take the site's matrix back to summer 08.

Regards...

really bad move for the very valid reasons stated by others.  You're going to have to rethink this.  Sounds like it's going to really hinder a lot of good threads.

A few things have changed over the last few months that have placed the site on a steady performance/useability decline. Not sure what the purpose is.

@ Stefan:

I have exactly what Jeanna describes above.  My Avatar is now huge!  I also do not know how to delete it and upload it like you suggested.

Thank you.

@ Stefan:

Nevermind.  I just uploaded my avatar from my hard drive and it automatically reset to the correct size.  Thanks.

I agree Hans,
that that is a bit annoying to you and others.

The problem is, that the IMG tag has some security problems.
Some bad users could use it to load virusses in the background.

Maybe you can in the meantime build a page at your own server
and just post a link to it.

When I am redoing the overunity.com server in January there will be more features
again.

Regards, Stefan.

Hi Stefan,

Greg who is User: gmeast has been posting his images as links in the WATER AS FUEL  topic. He is the top Plasma Spark developer and implementer at this time and has shared much in form of images.

This is a hard blow :-\ to take without notice Stefan

Could you please at least give him the ability to edit his posts so if he is up to it he may start to attach the pictures and images that are no longer there.

I have no idea if he will do all this work as he is a member at the Energetic Forum and was posting here to help spread this information to the people of this forum.

Please turn the IMG tag back on.. it is the advertisements that slow down pages.. not the external images.  I have blocked the advertisements and the pages load very fast.. even the ones with external images.

We members will loose a lot of great information if you don't turn it back on.

Besides I thought you were going to have a no ads membership to solve the slow pages problem.. it is the advertisements!

Thanks,
Jason

You have had this forum for years with the IMG tag on.. one more month until the new site.. I think it will survive one more month of being on!

I believe the notify function has also been disabled.

Hmm, all these troubles...has Stefan been replaced by a reptilian shape shifter ?
