plans to build woodgas system for cars and traktors
« on: November 12, 2005, 02:24:05 AM »
Hi All,
here is a PDF File which shows how to build a woodgas system.
Pretty interesting.
Maybe this could be scaled down to run a 2 KWatts emergency power
generator ?

Regards. Stefan.
P.S: Thanks to Walter for finding this file,

Sounds almost exactly like the production of water gas.  Run steam across hot coals and you get water gas (mostly hydrogen) with the byproduct of carbon monoxide.

I posted details about this primitive process (and others) on the Gathering of Scientists forum.

The wood gas process uses limited amounts of combustion air in a sealed chamber so the wood only partially combusts. The wood gives off gas but does not have the adequate amounts of air to fully burn. The syn-gas is then piped into a diesel engine where the un-burned gas is used in the combustion process.

There are some issues with getting the off gasses clean enough because of fly ash in the  gas.

I thought some on here like to see this.I have been working HHO and the plasma arc,But my brother has started playing with the ideal of compressing woodgas in a tank to run whatever with from a car to a generator. He plans on building a big enough wood gas processor to compress large volumes of gas if his testing plays out.Below is a short video of the burning gas after he compress a small tank to forty pounds.

Here is some more information on wood gasification-

Not correct Slipmatwax, woodgas cannot be used in a Diesel engine, it needs spark ignition.

There were hundreds of thousands of vehicles fitted with woodgas generators during and just after the war because petrol was scarce. Here is a picture of such a generator fitted to an Opel sedan (about 1944)

Here is another one:

Hi All,

Here is a AKA "Lego Gasifier" a biomass Gasifier Experimenters Kit with excellent gallery photographs of the construction -

It will be really helpful if you get success in this experiment we will able to run tractors for cultivation with this woodgas. That really good idea to run tractors with woodgas.
