Which will be stronger? Gravity or magnet motors?
« on: August 19, 2008, 03:03:41 PM »
Greetings All

 Food for thought.
Since most of us believe that magnet and gravity motors are eminent.

Which one do you feel will be stronger?

What applications do you think they would be there best at?

What dangers do each possibly have as well?

Hi Alan,

I think the first thing to be considered is the mechanical size (or volume) of both:  up to a few kg of weigth a magnet motor can be stronger than a gravity motor but then the cost of big magnets will gradually become a limiting factor and gravity motors will surely be the winner in high mechanical sizes.

I can imagine a combination of both types into a common setup of course, here the limit also the higher prices for really big magnets.

Applications? Everywhere in the world, especially in remote places where there is no normal utility power available or other alternative power sources are problematic or not applicable.

Danger? Not bigger than any presently known electric motors of comparable sizes involve,  added to this the fact of the danger of handling big sized magnets or moving weights if maintenance is needed.

rgds,  Gyula

PS:  looking forward to seeing your possible designs...  ;)

Gravity is a minor force. So...

Take care,

Michel

LOL

I like that. A minor force. I truly do not think I ever heard it called that. We all know that permanent magnets are also called a force but limited by its size on how much distance it can work. Today I couldn't find my compass so I set a line of magnets in a dish and they told me the magnetic north. Then I marked them. Yes I am playing with magnets as well. but all in all, IMO Magnet motors will own the small size but Gravity motors will own the large size and I believe there will be more to this story as well.

I agree.. a magnet motor can be compact and a gravity motor has to be large.... a gravity/magnet motor in the middle  :)

Well I went ahead a posted my first magnet wheel since 1974. I call it The Unpredictable Wheel.  It is a non runner but it is kind of interesting. It will run one way and the stop and run the other or it just stops. In the video I bumped it when it looked like it was going to run backwards. I built this wheel to get use to magnets again. And now I am getting better test set up.

Nice wheel Alan

I built devices with magnets that reacted the same way but on a horizontal plane.

Regarding your topic question, magnetism would probably win but has anyone simulated or calculated the continuous torque that a lead wheel say one meter diameter and 10 cm thick would produce if one half of it was shielded (an impossibility right now) from gravity. And the maximum speed unloaded?

"Which one do you feel will be stronger?"
Im not sure - first of all it needs to run - do you have any running one ???
Or you meant the force your hand to spin it  ::)
cheers,
khabe

@ khabe

I like the way you responded. LOL

A magnet wheel will depend on how strong the magnets are and how many in the device.

A gravity wheel will be determined on how much over balance and/or internal shift can be done in the turning.

For now, it is a officially a hypothetical evaluation. But I look at it from experience as well.

"Which one do you feel will be stronger?"- was your question,
And you answered ... or tried to explain to bonehead like me  :o
My reply was more like humor ( at least was meant, sorry my English ;-) because I have no idea how to compare two not existing devices  :-\
I have not seen any surely proofed ones - YouTube is good and nice place but proofs nothing,
How long time you have wrestled with Gravity and Magnet motors and what?s result?
Myself I do not, I have tried years ago but not more - I prefer to use Electricity & Magnetism Hand Rules,
But anyway I pay respect to guys whos cudgel their brains with - even when no wonder results - many another nice and useful things will be unfolded,
Happy vigor,
khabe

1. Gravity

2. Electrical generation in the modern world and water/irrigation in the 3rd, for now.

3. Bladerunner

Sorry Alen

Bladerunner is my idea of a future hell, the rapid increase of low cost electricity will cause a massive swelling of all types of comodities issues. We are very close to peak consupmtion on many items. Cure third world disease with clean water and give the rest of us consumers low cost power and we will eat through this planet like termites in soft pine.

The fact that its tough AND expensive to helicoter in a generator and fuel to burn down the rainforest is the only thing slowing them down, Give them a free/ unconnected/ no fuel power source and watch them mow it down.

I'm still building but faith in the human animal with knowing how to handle it is not very high, rome loved its auquaducts. Where is Rome and how come i see kids In africa skipping school so they can carry water home for the family.

Maybe something bigger than frustration is stopping free energy. Maybe it knows better. We might not be ready.

What you said is about as disturbing to me as Batman returns.
We just have to change the way we think.
What goes down, must come up. ;D
