I don't want to be rude but it ugly :)

Too late! (j/k ;) )

That happens when you go from gif to vector graphics and then back to gif.

Also title header should be "small in height" its cannot be used on a site because so many space is wasted in the page!

Graphics scaling is a wonnerful thing! It can be reworked, but I don't think it's worth the effort ATM.

The small icon should be 16x16 (cannot be different then that), 32x32 can be used but its for desktop use only. Also the icon should say when you look at it what that mean.

Ummm....say what?

I proposed mine, you'll propose yours, people will pick what they like best.

C'est pas?

New trys considering the watts criteria.......simple, easily recognized, +/- or N/S colors.

;D

@Yucca: Very good for a start!!!

@TheOne, exxcomm0n: Thanks! 16x16 artwork is like trying to dance in an empty beer barrel, huh?

@All: I think we can decide how to conduct this "contest" based on how things proceed here, and of course after discussing with Stefan. Perhaps a collaborative effort will produce a winner by general consensus or we'll have an official vote. On a side note, if anyone knows how to conduct a fair "vote" on a bulletin board, ensuring that people don't vote more than once, I'd like to hear how this is done.

Have fun everyone!

@ winner

Make it a poll (as this site is equipped for it), then just tally votes cast as of a certain date.

But ask Stephan as he has ultimate veto powers. ;)

Yeah, I'm aware of the poll feature, just not sure if it disallows multiple submissions from one user, IP address, etc. Perhaps this will be sufficient, but I was just concerned about ballot stuffing.

This need a bit of refinement by someone who can use 3d graphics, like Tao, but it gives a general idea, of my idea.  :)

Cheers,

Was thinking you could have a animated spinning wheel for the O, but don't know if that will tax your bandwidth too much.  I think maybe someone should list some requirements as to sizes and where its going.

...I think maybe someone should list some requirements as to sizes and where its going.

OK, here's a little more guidance with respect to the banner. The existing banner here is 151 pixels high (the space below H, R at top right and above the horizontal menu). For the web version of the *logo*, I recommend keeping in this ballpark for height, give or take, and a similar width as well. We need to be clear on the difference between logo and banner.

I could go into a lot more about this, but for now let's keep the above in mind and imagine a logo fitting in a similar height header.

For larger web presentations or posters the basic web logo could be embellished with more elements like lightning, finer details, etc. but we should have something that is visually clear in the 150-or-so pixel dimension for the header.

Graphics software (try IrfanView!) is great at dimensioning images. If you are starting out with something large, detailed, and spectactular, try scaling your image down to a 150 or so pixel height and see then what it looks like!  ;D

I'm not sure how Stefan feels about replacing the entire banner image (I think this glassy look is kinda cool myself), so for something on that scale we'll have to see what he says. I'm pretty sure he'd say "go for it," and I'd like to see some creative banners as well, so I don't see any harm in coming up with banner designs as well.

Hope this helps!

I would suggest a picture of a 1 litre car towing two caravans which contain two
suitcases of useful papers and 2 tons of brick rubble.

...Going a bit further, to minimize webmaster headache by just plopping a logo in the "glass block" area, we'd need a logo that looks reasonable at 80 pixels in height.

Bottom line: A clear logo at 80 pixels tall would be great.

Again, the easiest way to create logos is to start big, preferably with a vector graphics program, then reduce to 80 pixels and see if the design still works.

I would suggest a picture of a 1 litre car towing two caravans which contain two
suitcases of useful papers and 2 tons of brick rubble.

Hey, I don't see why we can't have some fun with this and generate some spoof logos and banners too. If we do indeed end up with a voting scenario, we'll just round up the serious entries.

I like @Freezer's banner, but it is a banner and not a logo. Also, I think Einstein should not be there. I'd put guys like Maxwell or others directly related to the overunity endeavor. There are so many to choose from.

I am 100% with you on this. Better to add Viktor Schauberger instead of Einstein :)

Note that the bulletin board's banner is actually several sections put together in a horizontal line: the left glass block edge, the middle of the left glass block, the join area of the two blocks, the middle of the right glass block, and the right glass block edge. It is done this way so the middle block sections can stretch with the window.

I mention this only to point out that banner designs should allow for areas that can be stretched horizontally without destroying the image. A logo will be placed somewhere on top of the banner, so a good design would have open background space for this as well.

Here's the latest with new space constraints for banner ONLY.

Keep throwing them ideas out kids. ;)

EDIT

The images could be changed pretty easy, and Shauberger might be better than Moray......

.....and the color for "Over" might be lightened a bit for better contrast.

It's a work in progress (like everything ;D ).
