User data, so far.

TinselKoala: [Current Setup]

Electrodes:Stainless Steel [Grade: 304]
Electrolyte('s):NaOH (2 pellets per 400 ml water)
By-Product('s):Typical Brown Scum
User Remarks [LPM]NaOH produced the most gas, I think. Baking soda was nearly as good. Vinegar isn't so good, but I used really old Heinz Malt Vinegar for fishnchips. I would bet glacial acetic acid would work better. I will be trying sulfuric acid later.

Previously Used Water:Dehumidifier water, commercial distilled water, tap water
Previously Used Electrolytes:Baking soda, vinegar, and none

Note: It is commonly believed, that using stainless steel electrodes will produced Hexavalent Chromium.http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/hexchrom/
The "Brown Scum" is likely Iron Oxide [Rust] and Hexavalent Chromium. These experiments command respect. Please research your electrodes and electrolytes. Leeching Chromium from Stainless Steel and [NaOH] should be treated with great respect. Safety is paramount ![/list]
