Attempts at making magnet motors are usually foiled due to the fact that the force of attraction is equal to the force required to seperate the magnets.  There is usually nothing to gain by allowing a magnet to attract steel - because any energy gained will have to be expended in getting them seperated again.

However - it is fact that when steel is pushed into a magnetic field, it heats up a few degrees.  And when steel is pulled out of a magnetic field, it cools down several degrees.   This is the working principle of magnetic heat pumps and refrigerators, and is conventional science as discovered by Kelvin.

Consider making a balanced beam or wheel where steel is attracted towards a magnet at one end, and pulled out of the magnet at the other end.  The forces will be equal and opposite - therefore it will require virtually no energy other than friction losses to move this beam or wheel. 

Various configurations are possible: balanced pairs of magnets, or magnets and springs, or magnets and gravity weights.  Any configuration where the force of attraction is equally balanced with the force of seperation. 

Obviously this would be unity less friction - but what this means is that we can have steel being pulled in and out of a powerful magnetic field for practically zero input.  This means we can have strong heating and cooling effects for practically zero input. 

All that remains is to use that heat differential with a stirling engine, drinking bird, Minto wheel or similar device.  The temperature differential would only be a few degrees - but this could be scaled up.  Extremely small electric motors - maybe stepper motors - could be used to move extremely large steel weights into the fields of extremely powerful magnets.  On their own, the forces required would be massive.  But in perfectly balanced opposing pairs, the force required would be insignicant.

The heating and cooling obtained from these large steel weights should be very significant, and virtually free.  Large generators require large cooling systems to dissipate the heat - and that's with using laminated steel and every other trick to prevent heat in the first place.  We want to maximise it - so simple steel should be fine.

A simple see-saw balanced beam with two steel weights with powerful magnets underneath should work very well.  Use heat exchangers top and bottom to collect the heat and the cooling.  A small electric motor powered by solar cells & a battery could turn a geared down single spoke flywheel with a large weight.  The energy of falling would be balanced by the cost of lifting the spoke.  Have two opposing ones counterrotating if you like - we just need to shift the centre of gravity sideways at a low frequency - so the energy cost of keeping these rotating is virtually zero. 

What I like about this is that this is basically most magnetic motor designs that have been thrown away because they can't achieve Unity.  Eddy current & heating losses have been blamed for their under-performance, when in fact they are the source of free energy that we have been missing all along ...

I like your idea,but,if you have some pm's turning at a few 100 revs,and bring some steel near them,it will slow down,or draw more current,or both.No energy if being taken from the thing,magnetic friction,I think it's called,would not this affect your idea?

Hi,
The steel heats up exactly because it internally transforms part of the potential energy that is available in magnetic field into heat (as result of ?friction? during magnetic domains? reconfiguration). A better quality /laminated steel heats up less and gives more mechanical power when attracted into the magnetic field.
The issue is that you need to externally provide that energy that was already transformed into heat when extracting the steel out of magnetic field. Moreover, you need to provide even more outside mechanical energy, since there is remnant magnetization during extraction (meaning larger force over the same path = larger work).

So if I have understood you correctly, you are saying that it requires more force to seperate magnet & steel than the force obtained when the magnet & steel are attracted?

Yes,unfortunately,it doe's,as I said in previous post,turn a mag. at a a few revs.put some steel near it and it will slow down.
When you bring a coil,with a core,near a moving mag.it slows down without drawing anything from the coil.
