I find this quite suspicious. The idea sounds pretty good nonetheless but I was curious. What if free energy tech is used here and masked by this "efficiency" talk just to blind the public and make them pay up like they always do. It sure would be a nice way to rip people off.

Howdy,

NASA does the same thing in satellites. In the cold of space it is easier to store energy mechanically rather than chemically.  When the solar cells are lit by sunlight they spin up a heavy flywheel using a motor.  When the satellite is on the dark side of the planet they extract the energy from the flywheel with the motor (now in generator more) with the solar cells switched out of the circuit.
