Thanks for posting this.  I have that exact same van with a bad transmission that I have been holding onto to convert to electric.  I want to pull the engine and trans and dump in a motor, batteries, supercaps and a small gas powered generator.
(Like used on construction sites or motorhomes)  I almost got rid of it but watching this made me decide to keep it for my "some time in the future" experiments.
