Mike x's CD Magnet Motor
« on: April 02, 2008, 08:54:21 AM »
Here's an MPMM-like magnet motor, but even more simple.

On March 30, 2008, Mike x (username: evyllinc) posted a video to YouTube showing a CD with magnets attached on its surface, spinning with just one rotating stator magnet to keep it going. This is an all-magnet motor, with no electrical input. He's presently working on repeating the effect, with some improvements for greater stability.

He will be posting a description of his parts and assembly soon.

Hmm.... An early April Fool?

Needs to show the device stopped and it running longer, like for 10 mins..

Man-o-man here we go again....Why is it that every time we get a video that claims to rotor on magnets only, the video is always 3 seconds long, shaky, blurry and no real "how to"?

But as always I have hope and will give this guy the benefit of the doubt.....but just once ;)

CD disc has some horizontal plane luff. Should be related to gravity.

Exactly! Posted 30-Mar so that everyone sees it 1-Apr. Probably depends on timezone also - it could have been posted on 1-Apr.

There's 31 days in March....

Does the stator magnet look like a bar magnet to anyone else?  It's hard to tell from the video.

Any updates on this?  I'd love to see a few detailed picturs of the magnet placement on the CD, (maybe a simple sketched diagram of how you have it put together?)

You know well that a spinning CD does not spin for 10 minutes - maybe in total vacuum with no gravity ;D

A CD will spin for ages if it has a motor spinning it around...  ;D

 :P

Looks more like Mike x's friction motor! The edge of the CD is just TOO close to the stator!
