Transistor Type
« on: February 14, 2008, 04:58:31 AM »
Whats a good transistor to run with a 12v card battery setup?
I was using a tip120 from RS but I allready burned out two so far.
I see on the emiter side of the transistor it only rated for 5v.
If anyone knows a good transistor to use with a 12v setup PLEASE let me know.

If this must not so fast transistor.
no produce harmotics .
use germatioum transistors (up to 80 Amp ut tp 175 wats.
2n174 enz. (To-36 case.
mat from motorola  , in last years from Germanium Power  (usa).
otherwise in old industry an military equiotments. (power-supplies , inverters enz..

If Silicon ... bind the oldoune 2N3055H (Homotaxial, made by RCA and Siemens (only the old one)  the Vec and Veb is over 12 volts (near 20 volts) oll other new types are Epitaxial Transistors with veb near 10 volts. they willl break.
Germanium Power transistors  ( Vce =~ Veb ) so you have no problems.
Pese

(i worked and tested semiconductors (professional way) over 40 jears)
(Dont use silicon darlingtons as TIP120 enz.for this)

Sorry but have to bug you one more time.
Are the Motorolla 2N5685 NPN Transistor 300 Watt 50 AMP any good for a 12v pulse motor setup?
I just fried the other transistor I had one to many coils on it I guess
