Electric cars in a Newspaper from July 1937
« on: July 31, 2008, 01:23:57 PM »
Hallo!

I have a PDF document on my homepage that shows electric cars in the year 1937.
The text is written in German, because the newspaper is from a company called "?sterrechische Kraftwerke AG", that means "Austrian powerplant company"

click here --> http://www.lametschwandtner.com

There are also electric trucks shown in this Newspaper.

I hope you find this interesting!  ;)

greetings
Felix

Hello Felix,

In the town where I live, there is a boat museum that has lots of old motors from the turn of the last century.

There is some really cool electric boat motors from 1900- 1910, that look even better, and are smaller than the ones you can buy now.
It kinda makes you wonder if we are going forward or backward with our technology.

ciao,  Dirt

Hallo dirt diggler,

you are right when you say "It kinda makes you wonder if we are going forward or backward with our technology"

The trucks in this newspaper can carry 6000 kg with a range of up to 80 kilometers!  :o

An electric car in our time carries not more with the same range.

Thank you for the translation offer.

It is appreciated by us of lesser language skills.

greets

EDIT

The amount of batteries don't look that big either (even though pictures show 2 of them) from the picture captioned "So scheibt man die frischuageledene Batterie ein."

Which I roughly translate to "man puts the battery in", to show you why your translation skills will be appreciated.

Hallo to all!

I have a new German version of the newspaper on my homepage, this version is better to read because of the font.

click here --> http://www.lametschwandtner.com

In a few days the translation to English will be done.

If someone could help me with the translation, it would go much faster.

greetings

Hello Felix,

I do not know if you are aware of free on-line language translators on the net?  I think if you use such service (for free)  then the main burden of translation could be transferred to computer and you would 'repair' some mistranslations or wrong word usage or some change in the words' order, the main 'skeleton' of the text would be available.
This service works by either you copy and paste the German text into a window of a link or give it a html address that includes the text to be translated (text not in pictures or in pdf or doc files, only pure text).  Hopefully you have a pure text file version of your present new pdf file and you can copy and paste certain parts of the full German text (max 1000 characters at a time) into this link here?

http://free-translation.imtranslator.net/default.asp?ldr=de/en&loc=en

Here is some test to judge how it translates, I copied this text from your site into the translator:

and I got this English text from it:

I would like to make available information over electric cars to you on this web page because also I am not spared by the high fuel prices and me this subject interests burning. By chance I have found on the attic of a friend a newspaper of the ?sterreichischen Kraftwerke AG from the year 1937. In this issue there is a report on electric cars and Electric trucks.
This newspaper article is the heart of this web page and should prove to all that it the electric cars could take up in the today's time by the gasoline and diesel vehicles.
Info: They need Adobe Reader or another PDF Viewer around this file to be able to register.
Here over again the links to the newspapers:

Of course it all depends the original text, how hard to digest it even for humans, and the number of technical words too.

rgds,  Gyula
