Escaping the Track
« on: December 31, 2007, 01:25:12 AM »
I have a pretty good idea for a magnet/gravity motor, but it requires a neodymium ball to move up a track and escape the surrounding magnetic field. I have seen a few videos where this has been achieved, but I can't seem to find a thread with an explanation as to how to do this. The force of gravity should bring the ball down. There would have to be a gradual shift in the magnet's strength near the top of the ramp.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with a SMOT (rail) using a Neo ball. Its usually a steel ball bearing. Do you have links?  Also check out my thread I just started about "SMOT TEST- could anyone do this?" My current view point on a SMOT mag rail is that they don't work. But if that test idea works I might change my mind.

Here is one video I found: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xMb0OqK6gx8

The ball moves up the ramp at a slight angle. Perhaps it is a steel ball rather than a neo ball. I'm not really sure.

Check this out http://www.overunity.com/index.php/topic,3541.msg56751.html
In that thread i've asked how to make a smot, and got my answer.
