The truth is, neither is right or wrong. It's all a matter of order. But no matter which you start with, building or understanding/hypothesizing, both are necessary to reach the end goal, and you will eventually perform both activities. They go hand-in-hand.

How you go about things and the order in which you do them is personal choice. About half the folks are builders, and half are thinkers. To date, both have learned, but neither is any further ahead of the other in terms of reaching the finish line.
