*** Materials, Parts and Data. ***
« on: October 31, 2007, 01:37:37 AM »
I have sarted this thread as a single place to keep information on Materials, Parta and Data. Thre are a number of groups -- both public and private, that have the same requirments. There is some great work going on sourcing parts and information but no single place it's all being kept. A forum thread is not the best format for this -- but it will do for now.

PLEASE ONLY POST INFORMATION AND DATA ON PARTS, MATERIALS, FORMULAE etc. I will sumarize posted information in this first post.

Wire:
Aluminum Wire with insulated anodized coating can be cheaply obtained on ebay if you search or "bonsai wire"

Drivers:
The best way to find driver chips is to go to the manufacturers web sites and look under Power Management/Drivers. Many of the drivers are not called "mossfet drivers" and you will fail to find them with a broad google search. Here are some of the fastest drivers availble.

Intersil drivers http://www.intersil.com/products/pt/parametric_table_503.asp   *** fastest driver you can get and a resonable price - $4.60 each.
EL7518  8ns rise and fal time into 1000pf, 12A peak current, 40MHz continuous opperation.
http://www.intersil.com/cda/deviceinfo/0,0,EL7158,0.html

Linear Drivers http://www.linear.com/pc/viewCategory.jsp?navId=H0,C1,C1003,C1142,C1041
LTC4440   7ns rise 10ns fall time into 1000pf, 2.5A peak current.
http://www.linear.com/pc/productDetail.jsp?navId=H0,C1,C1003,C1142,C1041,P2382

Microchip Drivers http://www.microchip.com/ParamChartSearch/chart.aspx?branchID=9010&mid=11&lang=en&pageId=79
TC4451/52 <20 rise and fall into 1000pf, 12A peak current. *Slower than EL7518 and TLC4440
http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=1335&dDocName=en025916

Texsas Instruments (TI) drivers http://focus.ti.com/paramsearch/docs/parametricsearch.tsp?family=analog&familyId=409&uiTemplateId=NODE_STRY_PGE_T
TPS28225
UCC2700

If money is no object then the fastest mosfet gate driver soon to be availble has under 2.5ns rise and fall times with 15A current peak. It can create 8ns wide pulses. It is the DEIC515 gate driver from IXYS RF (was Directed Energy) for $21. http://www.ixysrf.com/pdf/driver_ics/deic515.pdf

Currently shipping is the DEIC420 with a 3ns rise time and 20A peak current http://www.ixysrf.com/products/mosfet_driver_ics.html

IXYS have some great application notes on their web site. Here is a link to the PDF for their low side gate driver evaluation board -- it's worth examining for general tips on how to drive mosfets fast http://ixysrf.com/pdf/switch_mode/appnotes/evic420.pdf

http://www.mouser.com/ has helped me out before.
http://www.digikey.com/ has been good also.

The old diehard, http://www.allelectronics.com/.

Personally, when I want a part search I just use google. Mouser seems to be good for datasheets but I would google your parts and save any data sheets you want.

And just because, the Parallax SX microcontroler/Signal processor http://www.parallax.com/sx/index.asp
