How much power do you need to keep the disc spinning
and how do you generate these fields, so the discs (magnets?)
keep rotating ?

Many thanks.

Well, just an electronics engineer.
But I also studied physics during my time in
university.

So what is behind your wall ?

Just some "electronic-toys" to create rotating magnet fields ?

Hi tractormag,
Nice videos. Thx for the refs and different views there.

Few questions,
a.   In the white(ish) pack that you lower over the spinning disk, what's inside? (if you  are at liberty to say)
b.   Do you have to rev it up to a certain rotating speed before the disk reaches what appears to be steady state spin?
c.   What is the disk material?

Thanks

What do you mean steady state spin? I have metal shavings in the plastic cup. The disc in one video is ceramic and in the other video, the disc  is neo.

Thx for the answers.

I mean do you have to first spin it eg by hand to few rpm and then in picks up and accelerates to the final rpm shown in the videos?
I was looking to find out what was the minimum rpm needed for the disk to pick up and get to its final rotational speed.

Thanks

I'm sorry! I believe I know what you mean by steady state spin. What you are seeing is when the disc stops rolling. I believe that is what you mean by steady state spin, correct? You can do it as far as I know with two methods.#1 by slowing the speed of the disc down, however it must be within the capture ring.#2 while the disc is at high speed (say 7000 rpm's) within the capture ring, you place another disc face down within the ring and gently move it toward the spinning disc. This does two things. It stops the roll and decreases the tilt of the disc.I hope this is clear.

Actually, you do not have to engage the disc at all.The tractor will do the work for you.You don't have to initially spin the disc with your hand. As the field strength intensifies the speed increases.
