Title: Have I read this somewhere...
Post by: eserf on June 02, 2005, 07:09:00 PM
...or did I make this up?

Any reason we couldn't take any number of abandoned/tapped out/or even current offshore drilling platforms, and make the pilings operate like the "shake-in-light" flashlights? Wrap the pilings in coils, then have a donut/magnetic float ride the 30' + swells all day long generating usable electricity?

Heck, along those lines... what if one where to take a conventional freighter, and put a few "masts" through the hull, extending down maybe 20 meters, and upwards a few also, with a nuetral bouyancy float at the bottom. Use the same style generator configuration as above, and when the freighter rides the huge swells, the "masts" tend to stay put, while the boat acts as the float and moves up and down over the generators...

did I make all this up or have I seen this somewhere before? Thoughts?
