I'm from M?xico City; and as you can research there is no funding for this type of projects neither from the goverment or from the companies, since we usually adapt from tecnology and products from other countries.
I have been working on a Project about a device capable of generate electricity through a self mechanism, it needs a starter that can be from a battery or a UPS and does not need any other type of fuel or other external agent.
The mechanism which  I have been working is capable of producing about 5 KW at a time, any way, I believe that through a higher grade of research and development, it could be built a bigger one to generate over this KW or even a smaller one that could generate less KW and get a use for a ton of different uses.
For this Project I?m considering the patenting process, any way, the reason that I?m trying to get help is because in Mexico, the regulations and the high grade of corruption makes it very hard for me to acomplish this process. (You could verify this by consulting the amount of pattents generated from this country vs others) I am very interested in contacting in order to find if anyone has or knows any type of help or support related to this type of process, or if any one can recomend any way to get this. Also as finding where I can find people interested in the product itself as well as in the commercialization of it.

Welcome. I saw your other post also.

If your device is a simple system that can quickly be made and replicated, I would strongly urge you to consider the open source route. The simpler, the device, the more it produces, the more dangerous it is to companies and industries.  The more difficult it will be to get it on the market yourself.

On the other hand, if the device involves complicated mechanisms, controls, electronics, etc., it may then be a chance to go patent-industry. But to get anyone of serious nature involved in your project, you have to first have the device performance tested by a third party, otherwise it will be difficult to attract any type of investor. In fact, an investor would not be a serious person if there was no scientific basis to consider, such as a performance report.

But either way, I would urge you to go open source and divulge your device to the world as fast as possible, but with the best information already on hand, such as plans, pictures, video, texts of function and how to build, etc. The more precise your information, the less questions or criticism will be received. And from there, if the device needs fine-tuning or better functions, this board will be able to help in every way, especially in replication of the device to confirm it is what it is.

Yes you can go the patent route and "dream" of the billions, but tell yourself before a corporation pays such money, they will consider other less expensive avenues to control you. If you go open source, it's to late for anyone to do or say anything and you will be forever credited for the creation.

Consider "what does it give you to be the richest man in the cemetery". There is no greater gift then the one we are always striving to give mankind. It takes a very special person and you would not be left hands empty, on the contrary, but you have to believe that mankind comes first before your bank account.

I'd like to encourage you to go open source too; if you are thinking about money, well, fame calls money more than patents. Not to mention that corruption and economic interests exist in every country of this world.
Heck, if I could build a 5 kilowatt generator (more than necessary to power my home) because of your work I'd practically be morally obliged and more than happy to give you a quite hefty donation!

Cheers.

If one could obtain patents, money or grants for a product that negates the need for fossil fuels, don't you think something would have come to market by now? Open source your projects or your idea will be lost to the winds of time just like all the others that came before you. I assure you, there are no investors here, but many people who would spend their own money to replicate your device and confirm it has a CoP>1.

Good luck and be safe,

I would like to to open source, but how would it be warranty that not others get the benefit. I would like a company to produce it, it is a very simple way to doit, and costed around 700 usd, from buying stuff at stores like Sams or Home Depot. So if a big company can set a production line, it would sure be able to make a good profit. I dont dream in billions, but yes I would like to have some benefit....

Of course, you'll get your fast money that way, and no one else will get to see and much less use your invention though.
The same mistake over and over again for years to come.

I am very happy to see your are considering the open source route.

Let me give you some other angles to help you in this consideration.

1) If you patent the device, you will have to spend serious money and hope that your claims do not get rebuttled or you will have to pay more. Also, this is based on the fact that you will be able to patent in the first place because there is a possibility that your application may be refused.

2) During this patent process, you will have to wait until everything is in order before you can disclose your device.

3) Then comes the arduous task of finding the right business partner, the right deal, the right money investment, and start to build a company with all these often opposing forces always gnawing at you from all sides.

OPEN SOURCE

1) The day you have made your disclosure to open source is the day you can block in the annals of OU history as your own. If anyone comes in saying they can prove they had this device before you, they would have to do a very good job of documentation to provide this.

2) The same day some here will replicate to confirm the project works as stated. Now if there are any bugs, these can be worked out by the group here. Also improvements that you may not have considered would possibly be quick in comming by people here who have more experience in other fields that may be relative and beneficial.

3) The next day, you can start making the device and selling the device without having to worry about all the tight lipped scenarios one dreads.

4) The same day others can start making the device and selling the device.

5) Those others who are honorable will always hold a portion of the gain for you as the inventor as we all know what it takes to come up with such ideas and put them into practice. I would make it and sell it also in my area.

6) Realize that there will always be some who will simply refuse to conpensate you but they would have done this either patented of not. Just don't worry about these as they will be flashes in the pan.

7) Once open source, you may still get offers to join you in your quest to spead the OU message around the world, and get paid for it.

Rasg, nothing in open source will hurt you, but everything in patenting and corporate doldrums can and most likely will to one extent or another.

So the choice is live free and spread the word while earned a respectful living, or, live in a quasi paranoia while you are trying to make a buck. There is the trade off.

Companies all over the world are going open source, and its not just for software these days. The bottom line is people still make money on open source products, but anyone can. This prevents artificial price hikes and corporate gouging. Imagine if you could get fed up with microsofts prices so you started selling windows for 10$. Thats open source. A free market that anyone can take part in.

You would undoubtably be asked to go on a lecture tour after releasing such a technology publicly. Last I heard Al Gore was being paid 100,000$+ per speaking engagement to tell us its getting hot out... You would be telling people how to cool things down. I would pay a little more to hear the latter. Think about it.

If you do go open source and you are worried about someone else being credited for your invention, write it all down in detail, and mail it to yourself like a normal letter, and never ever open it under any circumstance. If someone else claims it to be theres you have complete documentation.

It's not clear whether you have a working prototype or not.  Do you?  If you have a working machine and can demonstrate it, there are many who will provide help and investment.  If you don't, then you have to ask yourself why not and you need to address that question first!  That's the first question any sponsor will ask!

If the machine is so obvious that just demonstrating it will give away the secret formula, then you might have a problem whether you patent or not.  First, in any case, you need to make sure it really works before you worry about getting anybody else on board or protecting your idea or even giving it away free.  You would surely not be the first to have fooled yourself into thinking you were getting free energy.

Can you at least tell us if it is a self-running machine or does it require some continuous external input fuel or power?  If it is a self-running machine with no external energy input requirement and you can show it running itself for extended periods and doing some quantifiable amount of free work, then you should have no trouble finding investors and interested promoters.

G'day all,

What Imsoolazy is proposing is not a good way of doing it. The only "proof" of prior art would be the date stamp on the envelope. something that can easily be forged, besides it does not prove anything. You can easily mail an envelope with a blank sheet of paper to yourself and  not seal the envelope. After you have received the stamped envelope you can put in anything you want at anytime you want.

This kind of "proof" will not last five minutes in Court if challenged.

A better way is to put your project write-up into an envelope, seal it with sealing wax (yes, they still do stuff like this) and deposit it with a prestigious lawfirm or a public trustee.

After obtaining a receipt, as a second string to the bow, buy a small advert in a newspaper and advertise under, say public notices, the fact that you have deposited an envelope with an invention and give the receipt number or some other unique identifying detail. You do not need to disclose where the envelope is on deposit.

This gives a much better level of protection and is hard to argue with.

Hallo Hans, geht das auch in Germany? Was k?nnte in good old Germany "a prestigious lawfirm or a public trustee" sein? Und wo in der Tageszeitung kann ich eine solche Anzeige schalten? Wie m?sste der Text lauten um rechtssicher zu sein?
