Magnet-Gravity-Wheel using SMOT

Hi all!

This is my idea after analizing few gravity wheels...
Please comment...

Each of 8 compartments of the wheel have one of this.

Magnets pulls the iron or steel ball to the wheel rim, so the center of mass

of the wheel is contantly to the right side of the wheel, so wheel

is constantly unbalanced. This should be enough for self rotation I believe.

I am pretty certain that the essence of a SMOT ramp is a
magnetic strip on BOTH sides of the path of the ball bearing.

Supposing the ball bearing were to be replaced with a long
thin cylindrical magnet?

I assume it is steel balls. They will get stuck in the middle, where the magnetic fiels is strongest, regardless of what position the wheel is in.

If the end of this tube was 31mm above floor level, the smot hadn't worked.

Well it seems my first drawing is not clear enough.
Of course there is magnetic strip on both sides of the
path of the ball bearing. This is just view from the side
and I could  not do much better with a paintbrush program.
There is why I have explained that you have a whole SMOT setup
in each compartment.

Maybe I misunderstand what you want to say, than sorry.

Also in the whole wheel I need the smot to work only in one compartment at the time,
it is compartment in drawing with an arrow.

Hello Silvije and all,

I think your idea would deserve a practical experiment so I can only encourage you to test it if you can.
What Vidar mentioned in his Reply #4 in previous page is true but could be remedied by making the central section around the shaft (i.e  at the beginning of each compartment)  to be of higher diameter so that each ball and hence each magnet bar can start further outside radially and will not be so close to each other any more in the center. This way the magnet trap in the center is avoided.
I cannot see any other sticky spot now, this is why I think this setup is worth experimenting.  Of course the mass/weight of the ball should be chosen correctly so that the balls would be able to disconnect from the smot due to gravity when needed.

I am not able to do the experiment yet, I first need to
get proper magnet bars.

Vidar's remark about sticky spot in the center is now more clear to me,
but I had in mind some version of the SMOT in which magnet bars are not parallel.
So I could not understand what he means.

My biggest problem for now is to make understandable drawings :)
