ok well i'm using the flywheel from the lawnmower and i am attaching it to one of the tires. i then put the tire, with flywheel in tow to its original place on the axel.

on my lawnmower there are 4 seperate (about 2 inches long)   axels attached to the mower body. so screwing the axel to my counter was simple.

by doing this i have a ready made low friction turning thingy device thing. i dunno.

i know thats the easy part.

after some heavy thinking and a little toying around with the flywheel and magnet, i noticed that the push of the magnet is almost stronger than the pull. correct me if i'm wrong. granted this may be common knowledge for you folks, but if i had all the answers i would not be here.

so any opinions or facts you may have please feel free to share them.

for those of you who do not know, the flywheel is made up of an aluminum core. the outer edge however is 1/4 magnet.

now would it not be possible to have say six magnets dangling around the flywheel, and as the flywheel rotates, the magnets also rotate via gears. like timing in a gasoline engine.

this way when the time is right, the magnet either pushes or pulls, depending upon the whereabouts of the magnetised portion of the flywheel.

another option i'm mulling over is to use a grinch like tactic. stop me if you've heard or done this.

by having a powerful magnet leading the flywheel. kind of like the bone on a string that the grinch attached to his dog.

he was never going to reach it but he appeared to chase it.

by connecting some sort of an overhanging arm you could position the leading magnet wherever you need it and also attach it to the base of the arm to keep the magnet always leading.

these are a few angles i am going to try.

now i just thought of another one.

if you use strictly the pushing affect, and only allowed the wheel to spin in one direction, would that rectify the stopping that occurs with a strictly pulling affect?

after all, opposing magnets want no part of each other. hmm

well i'm going to toy with some things.

What starts the wheel turning in the first place. If your answer is the magnetic push then you had to push the wheel into the magnetic repelling field with is storing energy. When you release it it will only loose energy from that point on until it stops. The fields are a vary tricky thing to wrap your head around.

If you draw this out and look at how the parts connect you will find that the magnet has nothing to push or pull against. It would be like being in space and trying to kick your feet into nothingness to make yourself move.

I would recommend until you refine your physics knowledge to post some of your ideas that your not sure about in the "Half baked Ideas" category. Keep thinking!

i figured out some stuff already.

1 thing i figured out is that i can barely understand what is being written about the magnets. unfortunately for me, my knowledge of physics begins and ends with what goes up.........must come down.

but i think if i can keep it simple, i will have greater success.
one side pushes and one side pulls is as much as i need to know at this stage.

i will refrain from posting until i have a spinning wheel. then you can help me get electricity from it ;D

and by the way...... is there a material that could block or bounce the magnetism back so as to not be attracted to the magnet on the other side? something thin like a piece of rubber? hmm it would have to be something very dense i would think. i dunno.

I am pretty sure you are right. I know I read somewhere that opposing is somewhat stronger than attraction. I cannot remember if there is a difference in strength between North and South fields regarding attraction/Repulsion but something about South being stronger opposing sounds right.

There is talk about mumetal being able to block magnetic fields but I haven't heard of any devices using it. Some people have used the magnetic shielding used in hard drives but have not had much luck with it.
