waterhammer effect & the pistol shrimp
« on: February 26, 2007, 02:40:37 AM »
Hello all

Here is an interesting device

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yh_-DUKQ4Uw

which is a clip from this video

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2464139837181538044&q=overunity&hl=en

He attributes it to a "waterhammer effect" but doesn,t know
how the mechanism actually works.  I,ve been pondering this
for a while and it looks like what is happenning here is much
like the pistol shrimp and the way it utilizes "cavitation"
of water.
