The Baghdad Battery
« on: March 22, 2007, 09:40:57 AM »
referenced by a co-worker

"The Baghdad Battery is believed to be about 2000 years old (from the Parthian period, roughly 250 BCE to CE 250). The jar was found in Khujut Rabu just outside Baghdad and is composed of a clay jar with a stopper made of asphalt. Sticking through the asphalt is an iron rod surrounded by a copper cylinder. When filled with vinegar - orany other electrolytic solution - the jar produces about 1.1 volts."

freeEnergy,
You really need to correct the title to the Persian Battery. See for yourself. Do you think people of Iraq with such inhuman nature could possibly create anything useful?

All these parts of the world were parts of the Persian empire. The reason that it is called the Baghdad battery now is because these artifacts were uncovered whilst Iraq is occupied by the US and because of the hostilities with Iran they ( the American occupiers ) called it the Baghdad battery.

The biggest question is where did they use a battery? I don't think MP3 players where on sale then!

It's thought that likely the people used it then for plating metals such as gold onto silver.

Good Idea!

;) other than metal plating, maybe they hooked it up to an Ancient Egyptian Light bulb:

Dear AhuraMazda,

a^2+b^2=c^2,this formula has been found on a ceramic tile,
near Baghdad,ex-Babylon ,a.P.(ythagoras) !
I like the knowledge from and about Pythagoras,
but I do also respect all the transmission of science !

 Parther are not Persian !

Probably the right moment to inform yourselves about Parther,Assyrer(Syria),
Hethiter and Sumerer, than you will come in contact with folks of "Israel" like Aramaeer/Hebraeer !

The most intelligent use of this "Battery" ? : as electrical "fire-stone" !(portable!)

S
  dL

p.s.: relativ to the chinese "r" to "l" change:
Kirche or church in portuguese: igreja
                                     spanish : iglesia
