Title: The "Saturn 9"!
Post by: synchro1 on April 23, 2023, 09:11:34 PM
The Falcon 9 has proven to be the most important rocket in the world. Teaming 9 Rocketdyne F-1 motors up would deliver the same thrust as the 30 spacex raptor motors. Both burn liquid Oxygen. The material strength would increase 3 fold and moving parts and maintenance reduce by 2/3's. The "Saturn 9" would correct the design flaw of the overly complex, congested "Raptor 30". Rocketdyne can meet the high production rate for the thousand Mars ships. The Rator is on top and the F-1 below. The F-1 has 3x's the size.

Elon could use NASA's SLS flame deflector facility in Florida to first test launch and tail land the first "Saturn 9" with a dummy load. This booster would replace the Artemis. Nasa would help furnish plenty of money because the new booster would satisfy the old parts condition for the SLS. Nasa could launch hundreds of people to the Moon in it's scaled up cone capsule.

Werner Von Braun bundled a "9" version for Disney. His final HLV (Heavy Launch Vehicle) was a single stage to orbit, single motor cone shaped hull that landed in a lagoon with the aid of parachutes.

Here's a few more of Werner's sketchs:

Musk needs to tow his oil Derrick into the tidal lagoon in reach of his factory Crains and launch his 33 over the water.

Rombus Rocket 1960's era Reusable Rocket by Philip Bono - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBuRVOc1d3U)

Phil Bono has his 9 bundle HLV collared by a concrete wall on a sea Jetty. This is close to how the "Saturn 9" should look on the launch and landing pad over the water. Musk could try to run a Jetty across the beach and copy Bono's design. Musk chose to harness hares to his dog sled.

The magic 9!

Musk was denied a permit to excavate a flame trench at Boca because the water table is too high. He improvised a steel plate solution that developed tardily. The entire project has been halted. Musk may have a greater chance to gain approval for a temporary boardwalk permit to build a pier out into the gulf where he can  moor his oil rig. Following through with his original plan for a water launch would circumvent all the FAA restrictions on his Boca launch facility.
