Tommey Reed's BEMF(flyback) Effects On DC And AC Input
« on: February 14, 2023, 03:07:25 AM »
Hi All,

I wanted to create this test to show bemf
(flyback) effects can happen on both DC and AC power.

This experiment also is great for H-bridge running coils or motors.
I believe Tesla seen the effect when he was working on the Tesla coil and ended up destroying the power plant. This I believe was a surge of higher voltage then the Tesla coil due to flyback effect.

Attached is a spec sheet.

Why did I give you this?

Because it is a semiconductor device that will switch AC power, extremely
fast and handle pretty high voltages.

Good bye spark gap; hello silicon carbide.

I use the heck out of these Tom; they're terrific devices.  Just do not forget
they are normally closed devices, opposite of a MOSFET.  So make sure you
are already pulsing it when you turn on the juice to it.  They are also a little
weird because you gate them with negative voltage instead of positive.
You apply a negative voltage to turn them off.  Once you get a handle on
how to drive them, they truly are universal switches.

Cheers!
