Hi All,
I'm building a custom CNC Router that will do all types of milling for future builds.

Very nice Tom!

Take your time building it because you'll use the heck out of it once you get it running.

Also, don't expect crazy good tolerances out of the platform itself.  You can make up
for the lack of heavy strong material by reducing the feeds-and-speeds in your g-code.
I have an old plastic and fiberboard CNC machine where I learned these techniques
to get around buying a twenty thousand dollar milling machine.  Once you know the
limitations of the platform, you're all set.  On my machine the major limitation was
during plunge operations--the gantry would tilt if I put too much pressure on the bit.
The other trick is to only use really sharp bits--they make a world of difference.

I still say CNC is more of an art than a science unless you have tons of money to
throw at a problem.

Hi Dog-One,
I agree, there would be a few adjustments in the future. Weight would and sharp bits would be very important.
I hope to have it up and running very soon, I have to head out to Florida in two weeks for a few weeks of work.

Thanks for the post.
Tom

Update on this cnc router build.

I'm liking it Tom.

Not sure if it was the camera perspective or not, but those steppers look huge.

Real curious what you find out working with the chain drive.  If you happen to
run into a situation of chain slop clobbering your precision, do tell.  This is
something I have always been curious about, ever since I had a high performance
timing chain in a race motor let go on me.  That was so difficult to diagnose.
Turned out, or at least the consensus was that my chain had expanded just
enough to delay valve closure causing a catastrophic engine failure when the
piston slammed into the exhaust valve.  The weirdest thing was, I took the
timing gears and chain afterwards, put them on a dyno engine and everything
worked flawlessly.  So whatever stretch happened to the chain, only did it
once and never did it again.  Many people don't realize how many moving parts
there are when you add a chain to the mix.

Hi All,

I made this simple 20v DC  with two independent power output to feed the Nema 34 steppers drivers form a microwave transformer.

Hi All,

This CNC project was a good success, lots of wood chips to do in the future.

This is last update on this project and will explain my next project to finish.
