Title: Developing a successful game..
Post by: iacob alex on July 10, 2020, 12:09:34 AM
.....from an electro-mechanical arrangement ( erratic swinging-rotating motion ) , as :
     https://theswingingsticks.com/how-the-swinging-sticks-works.php
.....into a mechanical ( only!!!) arrangement (possible "self" continuous rotating motion , due to gravity free fall and variing rotational inertia ) , if you take a look at :

.....but play/test the variable/spring arm , as :

.....or let's take this one as a challenge....starting with an electro-mechanical two-sticks game (erratic swinging and rotation , battery assisted ) , as :
     https://youtu.be/PWg6TG2bkFU (https://youtu.be/PWg6TG2bkFU)
     https://shop.madgallery.ch/products/swinging-sticks
.....but evolving ( testing...) into a mechanical (ONLY !!!) three sticks game ( possible continuous rotation due to gravity free fall , inertia assisted ) , at :

.....if you take a look at :
     https://youtu.be/x2m_J6Bxiqw (https://youtu.be/x2m_J6Bxiqw)
This a gravity and inertia game with a variable lever ( fixed and variable arm) or pendular lever.
As a first step , we intend to play the variable arm in the top and bottom position in such a manner ,so to maintain the torque difference on the same side of the fixed fulcrum.
Now ,let's "replay" this two (three ..) sticks game....but with a "knee-joint type" restriction (180* rotation , only!) for the mobile fulcrum of the second stick/pendulum...can we "tame/game" the chaotic motion (aleatory swinging and spinning ) into a regular one ( pulsatory rotation, only ...) ?!
For the moment the motion is (electric) battery assisted...but keep in mind the possibility to play a "clear" mechanical game ( gravity and inertia ) , without electric supply..as a second step !

.....has as a starting point a toy , created in 1996 , by two Germans . It has the appearance to defy the laws of physics and gravity :  https://theswingingsticks.com/ (https://theswingingsticks.com/)
It's really cool , but not cheap (due to electronics and battery "assistance") , as :
     https://youtu.be/RzE6mnJWfgk
Can we change this erratic swinging motion into a regular "self" pulsatory spinning ?
Let's try to "change the assistance " with a rotational inertia one...maybe with the help of :
   https://youtu.be/z6_NRNw88Jw (https://youtu.be/z6_NRNw88Jw)
It's a so "cheap key" to play gravity and inertia...

.....on the line with older "two sticks contrivances " playing gravity unbalance and rotational inertia :
     - shadoof/fountain pole
     - trebuchet/mass throwing simple machine
     -.....
As we know , the swinging sticks game is playing an erratic gravity unbalance due to irregular rotational inertia assistance ( supplied with an electromagnetic scheme and ...temporary battery..."paying" this "magic" motion ).
The proposal is a "new toy" , playing a possible continuous regular gravity unbalance (on the same side of the fulcrum )  and rotational  inertia "assistance",only.
Simply said : to develop and test the double pendulum concept into a lever-spring pendulum one...a kind of "modified" trebuchet ( a lever with a "self" variable arm...).

.....from a desk toy ( small size...) at :  https://youtu.be/RzE6mnJWfgk (https://youtu.be/RzE6mnJWfgk)
to an "outdoor" ( bigger size ) simple build , something  as    :  https://youtu.be/BH8AKDhcSv4 (https://youtu.be/BH8AKDhcSv4)
.....but playing a single variable arm , as a minimized same concept , as : https://www.geocities.ws/iacob_alex/Some_Drafts/text048.jpg (https://www.geocities.ws/iacob_alex/Some_Drafts/text048.jpg)

.....if you start with an animation of a continuous motion trebuchet (war/throwing mass simple machine ) , at :
     https://youtu.be/r5k47lvz9Rs (https://youtu.be/r5k47lvz9Rs)
.....but you imagine/test as a "modified" trebuchet ("peace"/non throwing mass simple machine ), or as a continuous rotating two sticks game due to gravity unbalance ( on the same side of the fulcrum ) and rotational effect , only.
Nothing more that the simplified old Middle Ages design ( long arm-short arm )...or a direct connection with the very old shadoof concept.

.....if we have in mind a possible "self"-rotation ( due to a continuous gravity  unbalance on the same side of the fulcrum and inertia , only...) of :
https://youtu.be/PWg6TG2bkFU
.....let's consider an inertial rotor ( this time a lever with a hinged arm ) , spinning with variable angular velocity , as :

.....and introducing the "change of arm " due to inertia for the top point of :

.....starting with a "classic" model ( long and short stick/tube ) , as : https://youtu.be/TcCAvqwV1JQ (https://youtu.be/TcCAvqwV1JQ)
.....performing a continuous erratic motion (swinging and rotating ) due to a continuous unbalance ( gravity and inertia ) supervised by an electromagnetic system , powered by an electric battery.
The suggestion is to put in action a possible continuous regular / spinning motion due to gravity and inertial unbalance , only ! ( not having an electromagnetic-battery "assistance...").
So , we can play /test , a pivot and two sticks , only :
     - the long stick/tube as "empty"
    - the short "blue " stick/tube with a mass spring system inside ( https://youtu.be/z6_NRNw88Jw (https://youtu.be/z6_NRNw88Jw) )
.....in a simplified but possible unusual manner : http://www.geocities.ws/iacob_alex/Some_Drafts/text048.jpg (http://www.geocities.ws/iacob_alex/Some_Drafts/text048.jpg)

.....step by step , starting with an electromagnetic "assistance":
     https://youtu.be/RzE6mnJWfgk (https://youtu.be/RzE6mnJWfgk) ( lever-lever , with irregular swinging-rotating motion )
     https://youtu.be/GlhGh5bgXmg ( lever-pendulum , with irregular swinging- rotating motion )
.....then a proposal/test , with an unseen ,"natural assistance" :
     http://www.geocities.ws/iacob_alex/Some_Drafts/text048.jpg (http://www.geocities.ws/iacob_alex/Some_Drafts/text048.jpg) ( lever-pendulum , with possible regular spinning motion , if we play a spring pendulum , as : https://youtu.be/z6_NRNw88Jw (https://youtu.be/z6_NRNw88Jw) ) ! ?

.....if we start with a lever-pendulum(two tubes,pipes arrangement) , playing an  irregular motion (swinging,rotating ) , as :
     https://youtu.be/RzE6mnJWfgk (https://youtu.be/RzE6mnJWfgk)
.....then the same lever-pendulum ( tubes, pipes ) arrangement , but introducing a restriction to the joint (180 degrees ) for the small arm (tube , pipe),intended to play a regular motion , as :
.....https://www.geocities.ws/iacob_alex/Some_Drafts/text048.jpg (https://www.geocities.ws/iacob_alex/Some_Drafts/text048.jpg)
.....soon after...”filling” the small arm ( \spring-free sliding mass - spring\...inside the tube ), so to play as an elastic pendulum...
.....and finally , removing the “hidden” electromagneric “assistance” with a possible unseen ,also ...but this time as a natural “assistance”(continuous unbalance due to gravity and rotational inertia )...however , if we have a validation test ,nothing but ?!

The swinging sticks are battery operated. In comment section fellow says about 2 years on set of batteries. The lowest price I saw on eBay was around $100.
