I like your idea.

My understanding is that Nitinol requires temperature change. What would cause the temperature change in your system?

Hmmmm. Not sure about it but the laser is an interesting idea. Can we power it with a Joule thief so we use a little power as possible? I'm concerned about the laser not hitting all the nitinol evenly.
