Similarity between 2 designs ?
« on: February 18, 2018, 03:20:04 AM »
I recently realized, that the following levitating-sculpture( which I remember reading seems to actually date back something like 20 years ),

'may'( I don't know ),   actually function identically to the well known  'Inverter Magnet' :

Turn the sculpture onto it's side,  and you'll realize that it 'may'( I don't know ) function identically to the 'Inverter Magnet' .

I don't actually know if there's a setup of separate magnets inside the sculpture,  however,  I am almost sure the sculpture uses a thread ( tether ),   which is exactly what the  'Inverter Magnet'  would require to achieve that effect if it was turned on it's side
(  obviously it may be difficult for some to make a visual comparison,  since the sculpture has very different looking external shapes  )

The artist also made more recent ones, but I don't know if they still use the tether

I should have included in my previous post 20-minutes ago, that that particular sculpture could actually float above a flat,  or spherical magnetic surface,   without using any tether at all,  by using 3 or 4 magnets to repel it away from the magnetic surface,   and then use a  central magnet inside of the sculpture to anchor it to the magnetic surface .
(  that may be how his latest sculptures functions )

No

That is not the magnetic tractor beam.

It is simply two magnets in repulsion, inside the metal.

What holds it in place, is a piece of fishing line
you can’t see unless you get up close.

on the left side

That is what keeps it from flying off out of the field.
