So - I have also been away for years... in 2005 I left my IT job in the UK and have been living and working all over the world.
This SEC is interesting to me due to the small size, no noise, low component count and low DC power input requirements.
Best is that they can be coupled with a variety of direct or boosted DC and/or Pulsed DC output, and the resulting possiblities for driving all sorts of small stand-alone electronic ckts and lighting, however... in the past 2-3yrs the lowly Joule Thief has grown in popularity, as have the oftimes advertised 'stand-alone' motor/generator pairs, Bedini SG,Bearden MEG and Kapandazes High output and heavy current devices.
My take: If you want to run your home off grid, the lighting and perimeter security is a triviality and easily handled by a JT, SEC or motor-generator devices which run them directly while self-recharging, or charging external batteries WHICH themselves can then provide DC power 24/7.
It's the Heating and cooling, cooking, washing and drying and power tools that are the biggest USERS of your stored juice. One should probably plan at least 3000-5000W offline DC source with an assortment of inverters for the AC that those 110/220v devices need - and a clone backup arrangement to handle untimely emergency needs.
Does anyone feel the SEC could ever be tuned and tweaked to handle running un-attended in a box, pit, garage or basement, 24/7, on battery, self-recharging or being driven/powered by one 12v (Deep Cycle boat) battery and simultaneously recharging another, or two or bank full?
I have found that these type Car, Boat or Truck batteries CAN be completely recharged to full capacity by using pulses of High Voltage ~40-180v DC, like the Bedini model, - which i'm gathering via your great body of work here and with each other, that the SEC can deliver.
..... or is the SEC forum dead?
