Title: Lost postings due to some members signing off....
Post by: hartiberlin on November 12, 2006, 06:52:29 AM
Hi All,
I just had a longer try to unpack the backuped SQL file
from the database from date 31st of October,
when still the users ctglabs, Marco and Tao
and a few others had posted in the long Steven Mark thread.

The problem I face is, that in this moment I can only read
the file  via a text editor and this way all postings are in
a format one after each other when typed in incremental
sorted by the time, it was typed in.

So I can not sort this in the moment to only
display one thread or only postings by one user.

For this to happen, I would have to install a new
forum database on a new domain and import the old
database and go to the profile of the left users and
1. extract all their old postings....or
2. extract all the text in the old thread...

The problem I see now is, that if I do option 1,
then there is no easy understanding to what the user
is answering, as this would display only his posts
and not the postings of the users before his post,
so it might get confusing...

When using method 2 this would mean,
putting out the same long thread again,
but now with all old messages, but maybe without the pics
and attachments, but it would be
indeed again very long and new users could get mixed
up, which thread is now the most current one and why
we have 2 almost identical threads this long...

So all in all it is a bigger problem and also the installation
of the sql file on the server could be a problem, cause
it is not good to have 2 identical called MySQL database
names, which would be the case then...

So as I also have not much time right now,
I guess I will let it stay as it is and ask the old
users please to post their new findings into the current
thread or a new thread again and if they have found
a new solution or new insights in their other forum,
please copy it also over here into a new thread or the old
one.

Many thanks for understanding.

P.S. I have now disabled, that users can sign off themself
completely and delete this way their postings...
You can only edit your former postings, but not delete
them all in one go...

Regards, Stefan. (moderator)

Stefan,

I, and I am sure a lot of others appreciate your time in trying to get this information back up. I realize that moderating this forum is enough work in itself. let alone taking on this additional task.

Thanks again,

Tim

Maybe it might be a good thing if some dead wood was eliminated from the Master Of Magnetics thread.  I don't think that the omission of these posts will impede our research because these members were thrashing around in the dark without really understanding what Steven had written.  There always seems to be a communication problem on this forum.  Many of the posts seem incomprehensible to me and I get the impression that from replies I receive that people do not understand what I write either.

I have offered 2 times already to create a database driven project management solution for this development project where developers could compare matrices of information regarding configuration, components and results .. all i need is someone qualified to help describe the variables/parameters in this process and I would help put this into some shape where we can get some achieveables done .. but people are still running around higgledy piggledy trying to guess how to build it in a once of stab in the dark.. you guys don't listen when someone is truly trying to be constructive .,. too busy chasing the golden goose ..

The offer still stands !!!!

Dean,
That would be great, of course it would have to be in TPU type 1,2,and 3 folders.
basic configurations would have to be stated from overall physical measurements, coil wraps and type.
Type would include discriptions like bi-filer, guage, direction, and others.
Wiring diagrams, input signals. Safety controls, and control diagrams. Construction techniques.
Technical data folder containing information on indutors and their configurations, formulas, magnetic theory, rotating fields and so on. Just a basic discription and I'm sure you have already thought of most of it.
It can evolve from there.
