Title: A battery story with a happy ending
Post by: markdansie on August 18, 2016, 11:24:27 AM

After years of reporting improvements in battery technologies from leading institutions and spin of companies, finally one is being put into production. New lithium metal batteries could make smartphones, drones, and electric cars last twice as long.

Doubling the longivity ? Sufficient ?

25 years before: http://www.bticcs.com/ (http://www.bticcs.com/)
not the battery but the battery charging process has been the barrier
Articles and Publications:
CCS a New Technology for the Automatic Charge Controle of Rechargeable Batteries (http://www.bticcs.com/pub/CCSE.pdf)
For NC batteries, per example, manufacturers are quoting 500 to 1,000 charge cycles. In real life most of these batteries have just a life of 100 cycles and often fail in much shorter time.As CCS is proving, much of it is the inadequate charging process, that cuts a battery life short. With CCS a battery life of 5000 charge cycles can be reached.

5000 charge cycles are good by conventional battery technology

 but 200000 cycles http://www.electronicsweekly.com/news/research-news/battery-lasts-200000-cycles-2016-05/ (http://www.electronicsweekly.com/news/research-news/battery-lasts-200000-cycles-2016-05/) are better

But for evehicles 5000 charge cycles,Hybrid power pack :battery+ capacitor,are enough !

A power supply has two energy sources, one of which has a relatively low energy density but provides a relatively high current and the other of which has a relatively high energy density but provides a relatively low current. One end of each of the energy sources is connected to an output terminal through a respective diode. The other ends of the energy sources are connected together to another output terminal. The power supply operates so that when the relatively low current is required by a load connected across the output terminals, the high energy density source provides the current; but when the relatively high current is required by the load, the current is provided from the low energy density source.
