This is an idea I thought of years ago but haven,t  got around
  to building a prototype and probably won,t, I,ve grown
 complacent over the years so figured I would put it up on the
 forum in case someone might make use of it.
 
Instead of moving a magnet past a coil or vice versa, create a path
 of high permeability that moves past a stationary magnet and coil,
 let the magnet do (atleast) half the work by pulling the path into
 alignment and at the same time flux is cutting through the coil.
