Your help please my DC motor/generator !
« on: October 12, 2015, 03:40:13 PM »

Hello, requesting your professional help please on my DC motor/generator project.
I have built a 16 pole magnetic generator with a commutator and brushes. It works "by itself"
when a hook up 1 - 12 volt battery too it, very very slow. (testing).

My intention is to have it to "recharge itself" as it is
running. What do I need to "get the RPM's up" and maintain them
up under load, and how to run a line from the generator back to the battery (s) for battery
recharging as its working.?

I have heard of a "converter" or something like that DC to DC, or would that apply here and if so how???
Please go "easy" on me with answers, I am still learning. Everything must be gently
explained fully. Thank you so much

Earl

We need to know a bit more about your device. Do you have a circuit diagram and a picture?

A DC to DC "converter" is called an inverter. There is a wide range available working between various voltages and at different amperagesrated as wattage. Also from DC to AC. This sort of thing:

Hello and I thank you for your reply. I have built a 16 pole air coil motor/generator combination which makes both AC/DC current. Right now I am testing it by using just one 12 volt battery only just to see if it will rotate as its own motor. Yes is does !!  I had heard to get it running on its own, then use some sort of "converter" and run a line from the motor/generator to the battery to keep the battery recharged. NOT inverter, a converter !! My intentions are to get it running on its own, which right now it will do with the one 12 volt battery, then get the RPM's up to generate the 120/240 VAC and to "maintain" them for the load, and have the unit to recharge itself in order to keep on working. Any help appreciated !!

God Bless and thanks

You need to reclaim the collapsing field. Have you studied the Bedini SG and Patrick's book?

Check out Chapter 6, amongst others.

The quickest way to see an output from this is to add a diode to each wire, to stop power input from a second battery and then connect the 2 wires to a bridge rectifier to convert ac to dc and then feed it into a second battery to charge it.

This simple setup shows there is more to this than you have been told and its the thing that got me into this many years ago.

Hi Garry,

Thank you what you said does make sense. You said "diode ON EACH WIRE????" WHICH WIRES/ one way diode? Can you explain and
draw a diagram for me please ??

Also you said your interest here many years ago. How did it turn out??

Thanks Garry

The purpose of the diode / diodes is to stop input power from the drive battery, going straight to the charge battery.

This means only power flowing in the opposite direction to the input is being collected by the charging battery.

The diodes go on the power wires that send power to the coils but if you connect power to them it will not drive the motor.

When you power up the coil the magnetic field is created because of the electron flow ..... when you take the power off ... the magnetic field colapses creating electron flow in the opposite direction .... this is what the diode allows to go back to the charge battery.

This is the hook, the time you see there is power coming out, that is otherwise wasted. it is true for every motor, as in every motor is a generator if spun via external power.

My last motor was pretty much like the one in the diagram above you can see a pic of it at

Though i have long since, lost access to the group.

I did pretty well at this, back in the day.

and there is other stuff out there on the net still about stuff i did back then.
